More pet peeves

It's been a little while since we've had a pet peeves thread. I'll start:

Friends who start their car in the dead of winter and crank the blower motor to high, apparently unaware that the temperature of the resulting air from the vents is dependent solely on the temperature of their car's engine, NOT THE FRIGGIN' VELOCITY OF THEIR BLOWER MOTOR. So you sit and chatter your teeth in the torrent of cold air, and if anything, the heater core takes a bit LONGER to warm up with the fan running full throttle. Sheesh...

Your friends must be the same people who push the elevator button 20 times in the course of the two minutes that they are waiting for it.

.........yep........I'll tell that elevator who's the boss..........!!

Rice? Is rice one of your pet peeves aside from twenty-somethings who disturb your sleep?

What did rice ever do to you?

Glad I drive a MB, just keep it in EC and let the climate control handle that.

Drivers that don't understand the concept of right on red piss me off. I'm like hello I have to be somewhere, and there is not a reason on this earth for you to be sitting in the turn right lane and not turning right.

Oh and the Q tips, the 90 year old people who drive 20mph and hit there brakes every two seconds.

I always laugh when I see that, the heater blower on high, blasting out freezing cold air! Some people won't believe you no matter how many times you tell them.

Currently on the list -

- drivers that speed excessively in residential areas

- people walking around outside with their freakin' iPods on all the time, not removing the earphones ever, even when purchasing coffee, etc. It's beyond rude, IMO, and they look like little walking Apple Inc. advertisements with their white speaker cables dangling from their ears...all that is missing is some apparently blissful dancing while casting a black shadow...

- people who insist on snow blowing their driveways at either < 7:00 AM or > 11:00 PM. This peeve to be replaced by the Suburban Early Morning Leaf Blower come Spring.

- last one - the stupid beeping noise snow plows make at 3:00 AM, when going in reverse. It if was constant, perhaps I could go back to sleep. But no, it's only in reverse. Intermittent. Why is it even needed? This is what - a 5 ton yellow machine with a massive diesel engine? The engine alone rumbles for blocks. If you somehow miss the engine sound, the vehicle's massive size and yellow paint, and bright blue flashing light - how is a reverse beeping tone going to help you out?

Oooh, one more. Zeus' snow plow peeves reminded me of the meathead who plows the parking lot across the street from me at 6am. He's got one of those "badboy" exhuasts, two-chambers or straightpipes, and has to rev the hell out of his crapbox pickup while plowing. If I weren't so lazy I'd get up and call The Man pronto, and see about having them cited for excessive exhaust noise. Who the hell switches from a stock exhaust and plows in residential areas?

People on the highway that can’t seem to comprehend that the term: “Slower Traffic Keep Right”,
HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT !!!!

Especially in areas where kids play! And parking lots! Would love to toss one of those nail strips that cops have when someone does that!!

I was one of those individuals during the "Sony Walkman" era...geeky socially-inept individual that no decent female would consider approaching...I responded by tuning out the world.

Interesting how people find this annoying, especially when those same people have no intention of interacting with said individual anyway.

People work different work shifts...understandable. Here, it gets so hot in the summer, that NO ONE complains about someone firing up their lawn mower before the crack of dawn on Saturdays. The difference between mowing at 87 degrees and 107 degrees!!

Blame that one on lawyers...lots of stupid stuff exists in this world as a result of idiots who should have been eliminated through Darwinism, that as a result of their haplessness, sued for damages and won!

My pet peeves only involve those nagging situations that affect me...couldn't care less about what annoying habit someone else has, as long as I'm not privvy to it.

Totally agree!

Although, I took a road trip last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised how many drivers got out of the way, and into the right lane. By far the majority did so - and with plenty of advance time. Only one I remember that didn't - and I had to go around - was an older gentleman in a big sedan. Ah well, maybe he earned it.

Yeah, me too as a teen, but I'm referring to the fact that it's more of an apparent fashion statement these days with the ubiquitous iPods - and I've seen people conduct an entire transaction with the phones still on. At least remove them when speaking with a cashier, etc. Brutal!

Part of the problem is my neighbourhood is so quiet, a lawnmower/leaf blower at 6-7 a.m. sounds like an aircraft landing. We generally don't have the heat problem here, doesn't get really warm until noonish. The guys I'm referring to just tend to be early risers, usually retired, and manicure every blade of grass on their lawn. Would it kill them to maybe wait until, oh, 8 am? Probably.
