Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

I agree with all of your points.

Society and popular media have a hand on this issue.

Not really.

Our criminal laws are based, on a large scale, on notions of what is right and wrong.

Interesting enough, the negative impact of child sexual abuse seems to be more pronounced on older (teen) victims.

There are a number of reasons for this--but the principal reason is that they feel guilty or culpable for their being abused. The first words out of many teen victims are: "I'm sorry it was my fault."

They feel guilty because somehow they feel as if they instigated the abuse or they feel guilty because they did not stop it sooner.

These are the victims who have the hardest time recovering. They are the ones who may end up having problems forming healthy relationships with their spouses, or start abusing drugs or become overly promiscuous.

The SOBs who sexually abuse children are selfish bastards who only think about their own needs and wants. They couldn't care less about the harm and damage that their actions cause. They leave behind a legacy of destroyed lives.

I prosecuted an old bastard who molested his own two sons and daughter. One son thought he was gay ("why else wold daddy be doing this to me") became sexually promiscuous and eventually caught AIDS and died.

Another son related during the preliminary examination the humiliation of having his own father stick his johnson inside the boy's mouth. The son still has issues, has not been able to form healthy attachments and goes from job to job.

The daughter has done the best, under the circumstances, but even she is among the walking wounded.

The SOB molester led a "normal" life and no one knew about his dirty little secret. He even managed to--get this--get elected to the local school board!!!

I was able to prosecute him under a (then) newly enacted law [it is Cal. Penal Code Sec. 803(g)]. He was sent to prison where he was serving time.

Unfortunatley, however, the Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom , struck down the specific procedure that we had used to get the old bastard.

He now walks a free man.

Incidentally, I am not making a political pitch here--but I guess I am.

We have to be EXTREMELY careful about who we elect to serve in our government. They are the ones who decide, among other things, what judges sit and rule on the laws that affect our lives. Be very careful about who you send to Washington and/or to your local state legislature.

Getting back to the victims. Very young victims often do not know what is happened to them, so their chances of recovery are better.

Finally, ALKIM, these guys DO KNOW what they are doing. They know it is wrong. And many are relieved that they have been finally caught.

The "excuses" I listed above are just part of the mental masturbation that they engage in order to excuse (to themselves and to society) their appallig behavior.

So what is your point?
I think a better question is what is your point. Are you saying its wrong for women to get married? I don't get it, sounds like another race card analogy, poor excuse for rationalization, dear. Maybe if you got off this minority trip you're always on (OK I get it already, you're not white) I dont know, but race had nothing to do with anything, why do you always play that broken record. These girls were getting married by choice, that I was referring to, and doing well with their families, society changed and it hasn't gotten better so, draw your own conclusions...

Listen sweety. I have never played the race card. Don't have to.

And, BTW cupcake, I am white. Not that it maters.

I have, however, pointed out (and will continue to point out) instances of racist behavior.

Can you possible be as dense, obtuse and clueless as you appear to be? Or are you a troll, looking to get a rise out of people.

In either case, the act is getting tiresome.

If you don't like my alleged race card comments, then there is a simple solution: put me on IGNORE and then your poor, sensitive and wounded ego won't have to deal with my comments.

What are you talking about now? It's like another language. Who was being racist? You were the only one who brought it up.

Once you have some daughters of your own, you certainly have stronger feelings about this subject than if you were childless. Of course, there are parents who molest their own children as well as others, so maybe it's something else that makes the difference. I think public outrage at this kind of behavior should continue.

Pedophiles is one thing, if they're convicted but in this country don't you have to actually prove that someone is guilty of a crime before you can send them to prison? Showing up at a house is not illegal. Yeah, these guys are pervs and probably should be shot, but the cops paying some woman of age to lie and say she isn't then tell someone to come to a house and have the police waiting, then they get there sit down then go to jail. But what have they done?

Actually, yes it is, in this context. In Texas, a meeting in person isn't even required for it to still be considered a crime.

Aren't they in Florida? But what is it they are doing? Showing up at a girl's house who is of age. She isn't really a minor.

California.

There are many laws that you can get arrested for without actually having to carry through with an act.

I agree with that, but nonetheless, this girl is of age, and thinking she's not doesn't change the fact she isn't. OK, basically I'm just saying there has to be another way. If the legal system is based on evidence of fact then what else can they get away with to convict someone if they don't need to actually have any in place for these guys?

I think it has to do with the intent. Yes, the person inside the house is actually an adult, but the guy who showed up at the door believed they were there to meet a minor. It isn't any different than a police sting set up to buy drugs or guns or for prostitution. And depending on the jurisdiction, there may be internet luring laws that come into effect that make the attempt to commit the act the crime itself.

I also think there are two distinct points going on in this threat. You seem to be arguing the acceptability of a teen girl who is of legal age to marry choosing of her own free will to marry an older man. Yes, there was a time in the not-to-distant past where people married younger, sometimes much younger than now. But I don't think that's what most people in this thread are arguing about. Most of the outrage, as near as I can see, is directed towards adults who prey on minors. The guy who walked through that door on the Dateline special wasn't looking for a wife. He was looking for a kid to have sex with.

Entrapment. Intend to have sex with an alleged underage girl, but she isn't so therefore it isn't illegal.

Theres something wrong with that too. How illegal is it to almost commit a crime?
