Wardrobing

I learned a new word today, wardrobing. Wardrobing is when someone buys an article of clothing, wears to a party/function/interview/etc, and then returns it to the store the next day. Do you know anyone who does this?

It's been going on at Nordstrom's for many years, especially with the really fancy women's dresses that are sold there.

I was told about that in San Francisco (Stonestown shopping center)
It was explained that certain poor African-American and certain other groups
I think, of people "buy" a dress, wear it one time to a fancy shindig and then return it, claiming for whatever reason it was unsuitable for them, and they want their money back.

Knew a graduate student who did it for a job interview back in the mid-80's. Didn't work. It's hard to disguise the character that lies behind that choice.

Nordstrom:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordstrom

It's an upscale clothing store known for extradorinarily high level of customer service, no-questions-asked return/refund policy, complimentary shoeshines for customers, great quality merchandise but reasonable prices, and highly competent salespeople. It seems to be a successful formula, their reputation is very good.

GThey started in Seattle and expanded to upper middle class areas mainly in the West. I liked going there, though I despise shopping.

I'd try it, but they have a no return policy at my thrift store.
