*** Weird Weather For The Weedend... ***

I'm sitting here, at home, in front of the computer, catching up on some of the ramblings since this afternoon.

The room lights up from the lightning (don't worry - everything is UPS-backed-upped) and thunder from the Thundersnowstorm we've got going on in the area right now...yep - Thunder/Lightning in a Snow-storm. This is the best/most-active T/L show I've seen in the past 15 years.

Oh, BTW, we're under a "Winter Storm Warning" until 6pm (Central Time) Sunday.

For our area, alone, the National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting 6"-12" of either/and/or the following: Snow, Sleet or Rain for the rest of this weekend - and it all started at 6pm this afternoon.

These guys at the NWS are just great! They know how to cover the bases on any possibility! ( :silly: )

How's the weather, in your area, affecting your plans for this weekend?

:dizzy2:

Hopefully you have enough firewood handy. Movies, books, red-wine, candies and at least one woman. That should solve the situation.

Winds...STRONG winds!

50 mph gusts or more. Portable basketball goal is lying on the ground. Takes around 50-60 mph gusts to do that.

Daughter played in an outdoor soccer scrimmage. What a waste! The game required a good grasp of wind physics as opposed to strategy! A few dads (including myself) lined one side of the field to retrieve errant balls. Dust created an eerie cloud cover that made the sunlight take on a light blue hue!

Drove home to see a utility pole on a major road snapped in half, but wires intact. Other expected sightings were airborne lawn furniture and flattened wood fencing.

At least temps are in the high 60's and power seems fine.

I got sun-burned today. My bad, I had the sunroof open, resulting in strawberry red cheeks ...:o
So, much for the weather here...;)

They predicted 5-6" of snow between Friday midnight and Saturday afternoon for Denver. There hasn't been a flake on the ground all day.

Kind of ticked me off, really. It was beautiful today. I could have been out in the junkyards. Instead, I slept late expecting a snow storm to cover everything.

*** Only two more to go... ***

About 20 minutes 'til the expiration of the "Winter Storm Warning" for our area...

Got up yesterday, had to push the door open through the snow ... heavy, wet stuff. Good heart-attack stuff. Chipped through that for about a half hour to reach the truck (4WD THANK YOU!). The amount yesterday morning? 11.5".

This morning - wifey wants a custard doughnut (Now I know why the word "nut" appears in THAT word!). Like a "nut" - I duplicate yesterday's feat by pushing my way out of the house, picking up the shovel and spend the next 45 minutes trying to reach the truck. More time, more snow, second day of the same 5hit, feels even heavier, but now it's over 13" - I measured it this time. I'm hoping that it's really a "drifted" height, not actual snow-fall. I'll have to wait 'til the local "Panic-Weather-Stations" gives us our "Fresh-From-The-Field" forecasts of the "Storm-Of-The-Ages" updates and snow-totals. She's got her doughnut and I'm listening to NASCAR in the other room. We're suppose to get another 1"-3" tonight, but the winds are suppose to "settle down" after 6pm.. I'm holding my breath...

(GAWD! I hate it when our local stations get a new piece of Weather Gear and they just have to show everyone every freaking thing the thing is capabable of doing.)

Just show me when the sun and 40° temperatures will be here - I'll celebrate the Storm's demise then.

Based on what I've learned over the years ... we're in for, at least, two more similiar storms before April 15th. At least one of these storms will hit during WI.'s State Girls/Boy's Basketball Championships, in Madison. The other will dance around that week, give or take a week or two.

:P

I had to drive from Dover DE back to the DC area today, dropping my sis off at Reagan National airport in the process. Talk about a white-knuckle driving experience! We saw at least 5 wrecks along the way including a van tetering in top of a guard rail, but the Benz made it through and I rewarded myself with a good shot of whiskey when I finally got home. Snow, freezing rain, and 30 degrees = no fun.

It was soo nice today I played a round of mini golf with the gf...

Nasty warmth, too early

I'd love some 40-degree temperatures here (and I do mean degrees Fahrenheit, thankyouverymuch).

Winter is, as usual in The Swamp, almost over, and earlier than ever this year. We had a high of 76 on Sunday. Drier than usual, but still far too frickin' warm for this time of year! March will be more of the same, but with humidity, and for April through November, I can predict the weather forecast: "Low 80, high 92, humidity 100% at dawn, 68% at 2 pm, with a 40% chance of afternoon thundershowers."

Gack. The same old garbage. The people who say they love such conditions have never worked outdoors in said conditions, and spend their time in air-conditioned offices. Just walking to your car down here makes you feel as though your whole body has been dipped in glue. . . .

I'm not saying 13 inches of snow is a good thing, except on occasion (read: when I don't have to go out!). But at least snow doesn't come into your car or house like flood waters do.

It's the contrast in seasons that I love. Two hundred and seventy days a year of the same climate conditions, hot or cold, is way too much of any one thing.

Hello, Mistress,

I shifted Oreo's litter box out about 3 inches from the wall, which gave her more room and seemed to help -- for about a week. Then she missed her bombing target again yesterday.

I've taken to putting a thick strip of paper toweling down along the edge of the pan, between pan and floor. This absorbs a lot of the urine when she does it, and makes things a lot easier to clean up.

("If you weren't so good-looking," I tell her, "you'd have to pack your pet bed and head on down the road.")

Final tally for the La Crosse area was a record 21" - Winona, MN., just north about 30 miles or so got over 30" out of this little storm.

We're getting forecasts for more of this stuff this week.

BTW, I'm not saying ANYTHING to lessen the blast those folks got over in western NY/PA about a week or two ago...what was their totals? Over 13 FEET? OR BETTER? (My back went out just typing that!!)

Oh well, I got a call from some folks at MPR (MN. Public Radio) that wanted me to check on their equipment at La Crescent, MN. this morning.

Headed over the river, got to the site and found their satellite dish was pretty clear (They have one of those black "tarp" type of covers that fits over the "bowl" area of the dish.), but one of our other tenants has a "mesh" panel satellite dish. That sucker was loaded with snow. Took me about 40 minutes using my truck's extendable-handle snow scaper/pusher to clean that bugger out.

Bring it on...my back can't get any worse...
