Happy birthday don. You know that being 18 and buying a lottery ticket thing reminds me of when my mother filled out a superbowl contest entry form for my brother Joe,who was like 14 years old at the time... HE WON!... Tickets to the 49'er vs somebody... but then lost because he was underaged...

Happy Birthday.

To celebrate you need to take about $100 in dollar bills and go to a strip club. It's a rite of passage in Western civilization.

Thumbs up *** First LEGAL drink... ***

TheDon:

Congrats on the 18th! Hopefully the weather is more condusive for celebrating down in FL today than it is in WI!

What's the legal age for beer/hard alcohol in FL. anyways?

Here's a chuckler for you...

Back in the '70s (for a while anyways) the legal age for consumption in WI. was 18 - flat accross the board.

I was working my first-job, in a restaurant in Oshkosh, during the EAA (Experiment Aircraft Association) Convention the week of my 18th b-day. On the 30th, I'm closing (as I had doing all week) when I start hearing a little voice calling out "Mark - Mark - Mark" ...

To put the whole thing in perspective, I also have been opening the restaurant during the week too. Close @ 1am - Open @ 5:30am (I had to prep and deliver the County Jail grub morning, noon and evening...routine was: open, prep, make, deliver AM grub, break, come back at 11am, prep, make, deliver grub, break, come back at 4:40pm, prep, make, deliver, return, NO BREAK, then close...)

Anyways, I'm thinking that I've lost it - hearing voices while I'm cleaning up the place...

NOPE - It turns out that it's my MOTHER! She's calling me through an open window by the dishwasher-machine.

She's "inviting" me out for my first "legal" drink at midnight!

I'm beat. The last thing I would have thought of was having a drink, but she's buying...what the hell...

The manager is laughing so hard about this that he lets me go early.

So mom and I head downtown to a little dive inhabited by 50/60 yos, remembering IKE and the good times.

First legal drink? Brandy & 7. Good old WI. type of drink.

One and done. I had to be in the store in about 5 hours.

Remember these times, they'll be all you'll have WHEN you get to be one of those 50/60 yos. I'm only a few months from being one myself!

And, BTW, having a drink w/your parent(s) isn't all that weird either. Especially when they're buying!
