Sounds like something we dreamed about as young boys.

I personally don't care if they install and use them, but I can understand why they make people uncomfortable.

I wonder if they'll make it easier to recruit and keep screeners.

Well, you get one of them old infrared cameras, with nightvision, and a certain filter works better...

I'm sure they'd separate it by sex but not sure that would make people that much more comfortable.

Here's information from the manufacturer's web site.

They claim that the most detailed images are not seen by the screeners; they see something that has been substantially processed to show less anatomical detail while emphasizing potential threats.

I saw a story on the news last week about this. The airport using the scanners only allow men to view male scans and women to use female scans. Identifiable facial features are not captured. Subjects have the option to be scanned by the device or to have the old-fashioned wand used. The scanners don't have the capacity to store images. Even if you don't believe that last part, I still think this is all a tempest in a teacup because you can't identify the person from the scan. Its not like a photograph.

Heck, you used to be able to buy x-ray glasses in comic books for a couple of bucks. Remember them? They worked! Really! No kidding! I had a pair!

Single shot capacity when combined with the excessive required preparation to fire makes it an impractical choice. Time required to reload is further prohibitive.
