Very ture, The World is Flat.
One very smart businessman once said this to me about it. "The train has already left the station, but if you can catch up and jump aboard, you are more then welcome, and will make a fortune." The world is changing, but we havn't seen anything yet...get ready for hyper drive.

They've got a long way to go.
The biggest killer in China is pulmonary disease.
The air in Xi 'an is so polluted you can barely see more than 1/4 mile most of the time. In Beijing, it is a little better because of the efforts of the government. In one part of the campaign to clean up the air for the Olympics, the government closed coal fired central heating plants and a steel mill. 40,000+ people lost their jobs. Dysentery and diarrhea are so prevalent in China that they are spoken of in routine conversation, much like we talk about a cold or the flu. Why? Raw sewage is routinely dumped overboard from commercial traffic all along the Yangtze. The banks of the Yangtze are home to 400,000,000 people, most of whom dump their sewage, garbage, unwanted female children and who knows what else there as well. "Feed it to the river" is what is said (in Chinese) when you want to dispose of something and you live along the Yangtze. The banks of the Yangtze are also home to tens of thousands of small, inefficient industries and factories that were created and built during the cultural revolution. Waste products such as heavy metals, fertilizer and garbage go into the river from these factories too. Plans are in effect to clean up these activites but, nothing binding will be in effect until after 2010. By then, the Yangtze will have been dammed, permanently trapping a lot of these materials in the riverbed silt. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing China and would go back in a heartbeat. Just don't get the idea that they have it all figured out because of some figures you saw on the Internet. You see, big works against you too.
