Go Gore, Go!

Gore's global warming doc wins Oscar

Associated Press - Feb 25, 09:12 More Photos

LOS ANGELES - "An Inconvenient Truth," the documentary that turned former vice president Al Gore's power-point presentation on global warming into an engaging and entertaining film, won the Oscar Sunday night.
The best-documentary win was a triumph for Gore, who has kept a sense of humor about his loss in the 2000 election that was decided in George W. Bush's favor by a U.S. Supreme Court decision.
"I am Al Gore. I used to be the next president of the United States of America," Gore says in the film, repeating a line he has used often.
Sunday, Gore used the Oscar win not to further his political career but to boost his campaign to find solutions for global warming and other environmental problems.
"My fellow Americans," Gore said to laughter from the crowd. "People all over the world, we need to solve the climate crisis. It's not a political issue, it's a moral issue. We have everything we need to get started with the possible will to act. That's a renewable resource. Let's renew it."
Earlier in the evening, Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio took the stage to unveil a series of efforts the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences took to make this year's awards more environmentally friendly.
Pressed by DiCaprio about any other major announcement he might like to make, the former vice president pulled out a statement.
"My fellow Americans, I'm going to take this opportunity right here and now, to formally announce my intentions to ..." Gore said before the orchestra broke in and he walked off, arm-in-arm and laughing, with DiCaprio.
Backstage, Gore put speculation to rest, saying "I do not have plans to become a candidate for office again."
Instead, Gore said he was dedicating all his efforts to pressuring governments to act on climate-crisis issues. "It is the overriding world challenge of our time," Gore said. "I really hope the decision by the academy to honor the work by director Davis Guggenheim and these producers will convince people who did not go see it before to see the movie and learn about the climate crisis and become a part of the solution."

now for the nobel!

it was without a doubt the most engaging documentary i have ever seen.

it also humanized the (reputed to be) stiff gore a lot.

I don't recall ANY Fla. vote recount by ANYONE ever showing that Al Gore had the election stolen from him. There were quite a few recounts taken by the media and newspapers, which certainly would still be screaming if the cause had merit.
Am I wrong?

In his own mind gore is:

1. President of the U.S.

2. Inventor of the Internet.

3. The inspiration for Love Story.

4. Tennessee's greatest son (oh wait, he lost THAT vote too).

5. A general, all-around bon-vivant!

What a tool!!!

I wonder if they make him pay for an extra seat when he flies?

And don't forget Tipper's hand at the (mostly failed) current album rating scheme.

Oh yeah!!!

Republicans should pray for Gore to run.

With maybe Kerry as VeeP. They'd be stumbling all over each other trying to take credit for everything since God separated the firmament. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb.

POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.
He's another bull**** politician trying to make a buck while trying to look holy.

I recently saw a "Draft Gore in 2008" bumper sticker.

It was affixed to the back of a HUGEEEEEEEEEE, gas guzzling Nissan Armada SUV. The Armada was outfitted with huge tires, super shiny chrome wheels that looked like they came off a praire schooner (they were THAT big) and enough bling bling to make P. Diddy or Snoop Dogg proud.

I thought it was the funniest thing I had seen in a long while.

After all, he arranged for your 'trans'-plantation to the US in the first place, otherwise you may still be counting coffee beans and we all know how profitable that is ....

I wonder if the anti-Gore crowd will ever let that one go and believe the truth for a change. Naaahhh, probably not.
