I'm fine with it, EXCEPT for a technology aspect.

Sure, it's probably "saving money" by moving it forward. But what about all the electronics that are pre-programmed with standard DST? You know, like the DVD players and VCRs (archaic as they may be), which auto-set themselves to the proper time. How about alarm clocks which do the same thing? Most OSes have a patch for the update, but as of right now it isn't a 'critical' update. This will only lead to people being late from work, lost revenue, and forcing people to either deal with electronics that set the clocks back at the wrong month, or be forced to buy new ones.

Sure, it may sound good in theroy, but screwing with TIME is a pretty bad idea, imho. When half of the technological world operates with a basic knowledge of when DST is.. changing DST itself will only screw up a lot of things. It should be up to the consumers and business if they want to "conserve energy", not the government to decide for them. Seems to be a problem in this country, these days. The government constantly takes (or tries to take) power away from the people, deciding that we can't make decisions for ourselves. May as well just convert to communism while we're at it.

I think that it was Benjamin Franklin who first suggested DST. I think I read that in one of the biographies of him that I read. I can't recall his rationale for it right now, though.

The move from an agrarian to an industrial society with the subsequent move from natural (sunrise/sunset) rhythms had a profound effect on people. I've read many interesting articles on this topic. I'm sure Carleton can expound further upon this, being a clockmaker.

Franklin's rationale...

was, I seem to remember reading, to allow shopkeepers and merchants to enjoy one more hour of "business" time in better weather since before electricity they closed at dark. This in an effort to stimulate the economy. Not sure if this is true but it makes sense.

Always thought it was enacted for farmers. Evidently they didn't work hard enough so they needed an extra hour

I figure if Congress would enact a law to add 6 hours more daylight to each day and raise the minimum wage to $50/hr everybody in the USA would be rich off the overtime.

Also, if Congress would change pi to be exactly 3 we could save a lot of misery in math classes and help students feel better about themselves.

It's for the children.

Daylight saving time.

One of the dumbest ideas that politicians have managed to foist upon us.

The time is the time. Set the damned clock and LEAVE it there. Who wants it to be dark at 5:30PM any damned way?!?!?!

I was thinking that we should also begin grading our standardized stests on a curve, you know, for the children. to protect their delicate egos. Also, I thought we should have athletics where everyone wins. and stretchy, rubber rulers, and, and, . . .

I don't know why exactly, but for some reason I am onery today. For now, I'll blame it on premature daylight savings time.

I'm on call 24/7 the way it is...that works out to just $4.65/hr..

If I'm going to be on call 36/7, I'd lose a $1.62/hr..

I'll take the Congressperson's pay and let them, finally, work 24/7. Fat chance that's happenin'.

Otherwise...

Fagetaboutit!!!
