Day Light Savings Time..
 

It changing to a really early time this year March 11th me thinks, anyone know why? Please don't tell me it's because they think we can save energy.

Officially, it is "daylight saving time."

It's changed so politicians can claim to have done something useful. Don't mention that some studies imply that we may use even more energy during daylight saving time. That's not what anyone wants to hear.

Matt- Come to think of it, we would use more energy during daylight hours doing chores around the house such as laundry, vacuming etc. I thought maybe it was because the old daylight time was a week before Easter and since James Cameron has blown the lid off the Resurrection theory they decided to change it....

It was part of the "W" energy policy.

I'll be happy as heck. I can't stand getting home from work and it's dark allready.

Second that! It's depressing when you wake up and it is dark, and then you leave the office to go home and it's dark. I feel (and probably look) like Nosferatu.

gas has gone up 13 cents a gallon in two weeks.....energy policy my a%$.

Third that....hate going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. I already spend a good part of my life "in the dark."

Because they think we can save energy. Sorry.

How? Unless there is blackout? And with the cost of energy and no incentive to conserve how?

So Congresscritters -- and Americans in general -- were closer to sanity then. Interesting . . .

I don't have the answer or understand the reasoning :) , that's just the reason I remember hearing on the radio.

I think the rationale for DST is that homes use more energy in the dark hours, e.g. when the lights are on (and, in early spring, the heat turned up). With DST, it is still light outside when most people rise and go to work, but dark comes an hour later in the evening, avoiding one hour of the supposed increased energy use rate.

One objection to DST is that in the more northern climes it results in more school children waiting for the bus or walking in the dark since so many schools have insanely early starting times.

I have no idea if DST really saves energy, but I do like the extra hour of daylight when I get home and am glad it is being moved up to Mar 11.

I personally prefer it to be dark in the morning before I leave for school. ITs nice being able to take a nap in the car for a few minutes before getting out... The seat in the Benz is actually more comfortable than my bed... I doubt it saves much energy, homes aren't the main users of electricty, and many commercial locations are lit 24/7 anyway.
