Cut us some slack! Even though It's Hitler It's still history and is worth a mention.I am more than a little offended at a certain atheist pinhead on here posting about a documentary supposedly finding Jesus's bones but,he (like everyone)has the right to his opinion.

240Joe 03-03-2007 03:36 PM

Calling someone a pinhead, like you just did, is a violation.

I'm sure the moderator will be in contact with you soon.

Jim, I love this old Mercedes Benz history. This stuff is the deep roots of Mercedes. Without this kind of history, they would just be another car company. People like this (hitler) are what made Mercedes the car company with high standards, and the company thats ahead of the curve.

Say what you want, nay-sayers. This is not insulting. This is fascinating. This is what made a company called Mercedes-Benz.

Jim, I am showing this one to my dad. My dad loves stuff like this. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Jim B.... Is that a picture of your new lady friend in your signature?

Also, I have to get those pitures off my digital camera still. Nothing like laziness...

Thanks for the support! I thought this was kind of interesting, and no one would mind, after all the Moderator is called MB Schutzstaffel. ("SS")

And nooo, she's not my girlfriend. But I wish......

She is awful gorgeous, (click the linky, in the signature, named Dana Delaney is a TV actress, smart/single and she is over 50! Imagine..

iwrock 03-03-2007 04:20 PM

Hey Hat, do you secretly have a G2/G3/G4??

It would definietly be somthing to have one of those cars. Fuel consumption would be a killer though.

Don't tell me how to do my job, as of now this thread is going nowhere.

Hatterasguy 03-03-2007 05:34 PM

Extremly interesting! Is this the bill of sale to the car that currantly resides in Canada?

Hitler was a big Mercedes fan and sent a lot of money there way.

Those "deep roots" are somethiing the factory doesn't like to brag about, and with good reason.

While the topic of the thread is not offensive, I take exception to your glorification of Adolph Hitler. Hiltler did not make Mercedes what it is, he used Mercedes and the rest of the German industiral concern to further his efforts.

The company called Mercedes-Benz was the result of a merger in 1926, long before Hitler was on the horizon.

The engineering of the vehicles used by Hitler come from the designs by Dr. Hans Nibel, Dr. William Maybach and Fritz Nallinger during the early '30s.

After the Allies destoyed the factory in WWII, MB went back to building the pre-war 170 model in 1947, because this was the only model that tooling was left intact after the factory was reduced to rubble. This was called the "era of reconstruction", during which MB produced the 300SL and 300 sedans, coupes, and cabriolets, along with the first unibody contruction MB models starting with the 1954 180 sedan and it's sporty brother, the 190SL. These "ponton" models ended with the top of the line 220SE in 1959. I should know, I bought my 1959 220SE over twenty years ago.

Vehicle production during the war stopped during 1942, and the factory was busy building military vehicles and airplane engines for Hitler. The factory isn't very proud of this, and rightly so. Hitler did nothing for MB, except to parade around in cars that they had already designed, and were building in the late '30s. As a matter of fact, it is because of Hitler that the Allies bombed the factories into rubble. Only because the tooling for the 170 was left and the grace of the occupation Allies was MB allowed to begin production after WWII.

Let's give credit where credit is due:

Paul Bracq and Karl Wilfret gave us the production 300SL gullwing in 1954.

Dr. Willaim Haspel and Paul Bracq designed the 300 series of the '50s, otherwise know as the Adenauer-wagen. These cars were on par with contemporary Rolls-Royce products.

Paul Bracq also designed the W111 coupe/cabriolet models of the 1960's, and the highly coveted R113 chassis 280SL.

Rudolph Uhlenhaut gave us the 300SEL 6.3.

This is what made Mercedes-Benz what it is today.

Maybe some people are confused with VW, the book "Small Wonder" by Walter Nelson is a good read for the facts about how Hitler created the people's car.

His moustache was pretty bad.

That style of mustache served Mr. Hardy quite well.
I would guess that the only reason more people do not wear a "Fly" like that now, is because people associate it with Hitler. Just like few children are named Adolf nowadays.
