Skywalk?

Did anybody else see the story on the Skywalk they are building at the Grand Canyon? It's a horseshoe-shaped walkway with a glass floor so you can look straight down at the Canyon floor from the top.

There was a thing in the Travel section of our local paper this past weekend. The thing looks pretty hairy, jutting right out over the cliffs. They also had a pic of a member of the tribe that's building it during the construction. The guy was just walking along the edge of the thing like it was 2' off the ground. Wasn't it going to be like $25 to walk out on it?

Link to the walk:

reminds me of being in Toronto and taking the $8 elevator ride up in the tourist trap UFO they have by the lake.

There is a section of glass or acrylic floor in the walk way that will stop you in your tracks.

No doubt it will. I remember the first time I went on the tour of Hoover Dam. I think it cost a quarter. Those days are looooong gone!

Of course they'd never let it happen, but wouldn't that be a great place to drop off your drunk, passed out buddy to sleep it off? Oh, the look on their face when they eventually woke up...

Yeah, that would be something. As Mistress said, it wouldn't be clean for long!

I find this thing fascinating. It just seems wrong, though.

There is a great of controversy about the skywalk.

Apparently the area where it is going to be built is not adequately supported by the current infrastructure, no running water, no roads wide enough to accomodate the anticipated tourist influx, inadequate services, etc.

The tribe in charge of the project, however, is adamant about going forward wiht the project.
