Well, I recommend that you drink what you prefer.

There is no accounting for personal taste.

I made the comment simply because I believe that Grey Goose is an "also-ran" and cannot compete with Ketel-1 or Belvedere or Finlandia. In fact, I prefer Skyy or Finlandia to Grey Goose.........and Grey Goose is considerably more costly.

I guess it has to do with what your tastebuds preffer. I don't like the taste of Skyy.

My buddy in the licquor business says when they have international blind taste tests it usually is kettle one, smirnoff, grey goose and sky mix around in the top three. Having hoisted a few parties start out with the premium and switch to the cheaper. After one three oz martini most people can't tell the diffeerence.

Hatty,

If you want to spoil yourself, pick up a bottle of "Ultimat" or Stoli "Elit"...they run about $50-60 apiece at the duty-free. I like the Stoli a bit better, particulary for a martini.

Wow way to much fun last night, I didn't get home to 8:30am. I'm never drinking again never! Last thing I remember was doing three car bombs then running around the streets of New Haven. My dad asked what I was doing today, I said I plan on sitting in a dark quite room.
ugh

Hatterasguy, sorry to hear that you had a bad day today. If you do ever have the desire to have another (drink) try some Pravda Vodka. I can't promise that you will not go over the edge but it is a very fine, smooth elbow bender. As the lable on the back of the bottle states "Since 1743, deep within the Eastern Carpathian Mountains in Southern Poland, our secret recipe has been handed down from generation to generation. It has been enjoyed for years by Polish Nobility. Pristine ice water from selected mountain springs, rare late harvest "sweet" rye, and careful handcrafted distillations create a Vodka of incomparable richness and purity."

You will be better by Tuesday.

Smirniff is pretty good, I think, particularly for the price point. Hanger 1 is coming along as a popular premium vodka as well. I don't like vodka myself, and rarely drink it.

After years of working as a bartender in classy places I have drank nearly every type of liquor you can imagine. Maybe that's not something to brag about. Either way, you can't beat Chopin and Belvedere for a smooth martini. Don't even bother with the couple drops of vermouth, just pour a some Chopin over ice and drop in a lemon twist. Don't spoil it with nasty olives.

Sorry, but Grey Goose, Ketel One, and Finlandia are just overpriced crap along with Stoli and Skyy. If you want smooth vodka and are willing to pay for it then try a little Chopin for your next drink and you will be quite satisfied. If you don't want to spend the money on Chopin or Belvedere you might as well buy something cheap. Don't waste your money on Grey Goose, it sucks.

On a side note, Patron tequila is not that good either. For the same price you can get much better tequila. For your next shot or snifter try a little El Tesoro Anejo or Don Julio 1942, and for your next margarita try a little Milagro reposado blended with Grand Marnier. Whenever somebody orders Patron from me I always have them try something different, and they are always quite happy with the end result. Partida reposado is another decent tequila for shots or margaritas.

I liked Smirnoff and hated Skyy...I think that's the only vodkas I've had.

There was a Myth Busters episode about it. They had a vodka expert do a blind taste test and while he could still differentiate between them they were drastically better after filtering.

Anybody here ever drink the flavored vodkas that are around now? Skyy has melon, blueberry, orange, etc. I've tasted the melon stuff in a Melontini. It was pretty good.
