I want to go to germany

I do want to make the travel to the homeland and visit the mercedes center in stuttgart.

I do make enough that I can save up in no time .. Just talking it over with the parental units is something ill have to do

Perhaps I can see if they pitch in as my graduation gift from high school

spend maybe a 1.5-2 weeks.. travel by train and stay in youth hostels. see other parts of europe if I feel like it..

I would love to visit some WWII sites and visit neuschwanstein... that would be the best thing ever

I've been and loved it too. Definitely worth a visit. And go to the Nurburgring Museum! It's very heavily Mercedes orientated.

Nobody should be allowed to travel without a botanist.

My brother and his buds go to Germany & Switzerland every year for skiing. They've been doing it since they were stationed in Germany during the Cold War. They visit the families that hosted them, one a WWII tanker on the eastern front -- my brother's alternate family in Germany. He and the old guy talked tanks a lot because my brother was whatever you call an army captain who has a bunch of tanks under his command, facing the Warsaw Pact in the early 1980's. Oh yeah, a speed bump.

Anyway, he loves Germany and always enjoys the visit and refreshing his German language skills.

Travelling to Germany has long been a desire of mine as well. I wonder if a "Mercedes Forum" descent on the MB museum and factoy en masse would be a neat idea?

Don, i lived and worked in Aachen for 2years (93-95). Aachen is a small
(250000) city, right on the borders with Holland and Belgium. Very nice town with huge history. It has connections with Charlemagne and the Holy Roman Empire (c742-814 AD), he is actually buried in the Cathederal (Dom) there and it was believed there were very valuable relics in the Dom which were destroyed during allied bombing.
In more recent history, it was the first German city the allies liberated (Oct 21 1944) and there are still shell pockmarks in some of the buildings. Its a beuatiful city with some wonderful architecture, and a good Irish bar!!
For supplies of a herbal nature, i used to drive across to Maastricht, a pleasant run of 20miles. Along the way is a town named Margraten, where there is a US War Cemetery. It was the first war cemetery i'd been to, a very sombre and solemn place. Peaceful... I think theres over 8000 buried there.
During my time in Germany, which i've returned to a few times, i got to drive around quite a bit of the country, as well as a fair bit of Europe. I did get down to Neuschwanstein, but didnt actually go into the castle (it was after hours). A recommended route is the "Romantische Strasse" from Magdeburg down to Fussen, where Neuschwanstein is. This covers alot of very picturesque and historic german towns and villages, untouched by the war.
theres a helluva lot to see and do in germany. I got to Dachau, which was chilling, total silence bar the footfalls of visitors.
Drove on a portion of the SpaFrancorchamps track, part of which is public road. Got be driven round Hockenheim in a stripped out DTM car-fantastic!
And where else but in the autobahn would you see the following- an MB Krankenwagen (E class, but with the bodywork that made it look like the Ghostbusters car) with blue lights blazing, being flashed and told to get out of the way by a screaming Porsche

Hope you get to make that trip Don

My wife and I went to Garmisch for about 2 weeks on our (delayed) honeymoon last fall. It was beautiful. We rented an Audi A3 TDI, but wound up driving it very little... there was so much to do locally (outdoors) and what driving we did do we could have avoided by taking local mass transit, which gives you a really nice local flavor anyway.

I can't wait to go back someday; it was absolutely perfect, as far as vacations go. Next time, though, I'll budget some time for junkyarding!

Don, I should go with you... No joke! I am your age, and am not afraid to get in a little bit of trouble!

I wanna go to Germany to tour all the MB sites, such as the Nurburgring, the factory, the classic center, the AMG factory, and drive the autobahn! --Oh, and my old boss has a few AMG cars, and I think he can swing some of those really cool AMG tour passes.
