Forgive the MB newbie stupid question, but humor me. What is the AMG Challenge? I can only assume that it is as fun as I think it would be.

I got mine, too. I've never done it before, so I had the same question. If I participate in it, there's no change I'd be a buyer. I feel a little reticent about going because of that. I'm itching to drive one of these cars, though. I know somebody here has been to one of these. What happens at them?

I've gotten invitations in the past. Bit hazy on the details, but don't they charge a substantial amount of money to drive the cars? I seem to remember something along the lines of several hundred dollars.

Our invitation said complimentary of your local Mercedes-Benz dealer.... I wonder if its because my dad bought a car from them?

It looks like a blast, as you get to beat the living daylights out of all the AMG models.

I've never bought anything from any local Benz dealers, but I got one. They are sending them to people off mailing lists they bought, I am sure.

I don't recall that there was any mention of a cost associated with it. Presumably, these events are part of the company's promotional budget. I'd feel kinda bad about wasting their time, knowing I wasn't going to buy anything.

Not sure if things have changed since I went in 2003 but the guests were not allowed to drive them when I went. We were taken around a 2 mile course with a trained driver. Now before you say "awwww, that sucks" let me just say that is the most damn fun I have ever had in a car with my clothes on.

The out bound was a nearly straight shot. We hit about 110 or 120…. It was a bit of blur. At that point a cone showed up. He stood on the brakes (ESP was off) and put the S55 into a 4 wheel drift. Just before the apex he nailed the throttle and headed for the "S" curves. Tires where squealing brakes were smoking. How he got the car around the cones at the speed he was traveling I'll never know. It was wicked. Did the same thing in an E55 and it was just as fun. Did it in a ML55 and it was OK. That defied the bounds of logic but damn…..!!

I heard that they do one where you have to pay several $100 but in that one you get to drive.

The one I went to was in 2001 and I remember it like it was yesterday.

I thought they mailed those AMG challenge things to everyone. Last time I looked it was $800 or $1500 or some chump change like that.

Anyone want to either sell or give me their invitation? I'll definately attend, without a doubt. When and where, exactly is it anyways? If nobody can, or will either sell or give me theirs, how do I get one from the source, or ask them if I can go. Who sent them out? I bought my AMG 560SEC EURO, From a private seller, so I wouldn't have gotten one...

Now youze talkin'...

"F" the challenge. I do it every day going to work. Kind of a pig around corners, but not too bad considering it's weight.

Apparently it's $1,195 this year, according to this.
