Loving one's Benz more than one's spouse ?

Hi,

I know that this forum is primarily for technical issues but I'd like to hear your opinion.

We have a 1989 300CE and a 2004 Toyota Camry, the Camry which my wife drives is of course newer and more expensive (purchased new) while my Benz was already older than 15 years when I bought it. I said that to avoid people thinking that my wife has the car with lesser value.

After 2 fender-benders I am not letting my wife drive my 300CE anymore . She is now angry with me and accuses me of loving my Benz more than her. What should I do, give in and suffer each time sitting in the Benz or stay firm and risk marital estrangement?

Headache! headache!

Try using some of her stuff.
Wear her favourite shoes, dresses, even her underwear, for a while.
If she objects to that, you've made your point.

Were the fender-benders her fault?

Regardless, that decision would be on the same order as one you would instill on a teenager that has cracked up one too many cars! Surely your spouse is a bit higher on the food chain than a teen?

I wouldn't do that to my spouse. And EVERY window regulator that broke on my W124 did so while my wife fiddled with them!

Man! I can't believe you're even asking. No way! She doesn't get to drive the Benz.

Okay, now what other marital advice do you need . . . ?

Talking

I hate to say this but...take the rice burner to work one day, call her and tell her it's just been totalled! Get her reaction (on tape preferably) and play it back or repeat it when she asks to drive your car. Problem solved! Next?

Sometimes you've just got to say "No." It worked pretty well for me when I was married . . . Oh, wait a minute. Hmmm. Okay, then. Just use your best judgement.

Get a new wife.

If she wants a MB you could trade that Camry in on a nice C240...

Thank you all for the inputs, it is great that you don't have my dilemma. Once again my wife is not without car. As I said her car had been purchased new, We have been buying new car every 4 years to make sure she has no pre-owned car problems, which I have sometimes with my now 18-year old 300CE.
I am the one who keep both cars maintained and above all clean. I detail them regularly and until the two light accidents she could take my car any time, what she especially did when the Benz has been washed and detailed.

G-Benz, yes the fender-benders were her fault. But she insists on using the Benz instead of her much newer Camry, which also suffered one rear-bumper-against-retainer wall incident.

Perhaps we shoud switch the cars or (if not for the money, sighhhhh) get her a C-class MB.

Just make it clear what she owes you whenever she damages the car - kind of like tit-for-tat.

don't feel so bad...my wife took my CE... she got tired of driving a ford expedition.

i had the 300e... then gave it to my son after i got the CE

now i have a beater 260e (actually it runs great, just needs valve stem seals)... i only drive 1.5 miles to work..my wife drives 35... so really i don't mind.

she likes the car.... i would give your wife the CE... and take the Camry and trade it for what you want....

I feel your pain. I was very close to buying a new camry for my wife. She has been driving a 1996 camry for almost 8 years. The deal was to get her a new one this year when my daughter gets her liscense. Well when I bought my 1985 500sel my wife fell in love with the car. She almost took it over. I wanted to keep it garaged and babied like the previous owner did for more than 20 years. She wanted to start driving it to work and around town. (blessing in disguise). She started to see and feel the difference in the camry and the mercedes engineering and responsiveness. It turns out I was able to convince her to get a mint 1993 320e. for $6500.00. The new camry was gonna cost $25,000. Turns out that I saved almost 20 grand and now have another mercedes in the stable. Life is good. Plan on taking the 20 grand savings and pay the house off early. WOW!!. She now complains about the camry feeling too light and not as tight as the mercedes 320e. I just told her that she made a wise choice. The mercedes is 14 years old, but a new camry could not have possibly been a better choice period. Boy, 20 grand in savings. The mercedes is paid for, but the camry was gonna set us back $450.00 every month. Go figure. You guys just don't know how happy I am right now. Life is truly good.

Why not just GIVE her the 300ce "I love you so much I'm giving you my car!" and take over the '04 Camry. Sell it (the depreciation is horizontal so you'll get a good price out of it)

Then get yourself an E500. Admit it, you *know* you want one. But don't let her ever drive it. Not ever.

(Of course, that won't solve her complaint about you loving the 300ce more than her. It'd just gonna worse with the E500!! She'll rue the day you get an E500).

I'm not married, but noone drives my benz, since I paid for it myself, my parents aren't allowed to touch it The only person I let drive it is this girl I like, just for an excuse to make her sit in my lap

Hehehe... My moms been driving a Mercedes for as long as I can remember.

My mom and dad decided that they wanted a car to compliment the SL600.... Well, they found it in the form of a G500, which my dad bought for my mom to drive.... But anyways, my dad likes driving it more than my mom, so whenever he gets a chance, he drive it! So my mom drives the SL, and my dad drives the G.

Tell her that if she wants to drive the CE, then you get to do whatever you want with the toyota... That means trading it in on a 300CE cabriolet, or another mercedes...
