hurray scholarship

I got confirmation in the mail today that my bright futures scholarship was approved

I received the medallion which covers 75% regular college for 4 years or 100% community college for 2 and 75% for 2 years at regular college

Now I can work my ass off over the summer and save up for books, a new laptop and an intercooler for my baby...

oh and I have applied for others. dont you all worry

The 18th I go to my engineering comp.. I will be doing CAD 3D engineering. I hope to do well I have been going over everything... threads, gear calculations, everything... We are the school to beat. Teachers at other schools wont enter their school in that competition til my advisor retires.. Thats how good we are

Sweet!

Any ideas for college?

I know some schools will match any scholarships that you have.

My buddy got his engineering degree from UCONN, now he works for Sikorsky, and gets paid well. Sikorsky is going to pay for him to get his masters degree.

If you can handle the work load, and math, its an awsome field to go into. If you play your cards right the money seems to be great!

Out of the three people I usualy hang with I'm the "dumb" one, with my lowly Int Buisness major. I kind of want to get my MBA just to keep up with them. Ones going to be a Dr, how does a business major compete with that?.

Before you enroll in the CC, get a list of the textbooks for the courses that you would take, and compare them to those at your favored university; perhaps talk to the faculty there about them. Also, of course, make sure that the courses will transfer.

I am not against anyone taking classes at a CC, but you need to be smart about it. It's a great way to save a lot of money on your first two years.

Congratulations. Florida has a very well developed system of transfer from CC to 4yr schools. They publish a complete directory of equivalent courses I think. Even so, I would talk to the 4 yr school in advance to avoid any glitches.
Don't forget to look for your textbooks on www.alibris.com or used books on Amazon before wasting good money at the bookstore. I allow my students to use the previous edition of the textbook. Typically $5 on Alibris compared to $80 at the bookstore.

Don, check for each course that you want to take. Otherwise, it's a waste of time. Knowing the textbooks used will help when you ask, unless the university is already well-familiar with the course. Do not bother to take the classes required for an associates degree, since you don't want to stop there.

If you do go to a CC first, your grades there will matter more than your high-school grades when it comes to getting into a university. So don't despair.

It all depends on the state and the relationship between the CC system and the universities. For instance, in CO, if you complete the requirements for an AA or AS, the four year schools are legally required to waive all freshman and sophmore GEn Ed requirements and accept you as a junior.
However, if you take enough credits to transfer as a junior, but haven't actually earned an AA or AS, different rules apply and the 4 yr schools can mess with your credits.
So, you need to familiarize yourself with the precise requirements of the system in your state. Florida was one of the first states for formalize transfer agreements between 2 and 4 yr schools so the situation should benefit you. Just read the requirements carefully.

You should get an AA or AS anyway on your way. Since you're gonna be doing engineering, I recommend you learn to code well. It's the same amount of work, plus, it will force you to get your general education requirements out of the way.

You'll miss out on campus life though, but you'll probably be hanging out with more mature students. Math help is easier to get at CC. The libraries are easier to navigate also at a CC but may not have all the cool periodicals.

I started with two years at a CC, and did not earn an AA degree. The related area classes would not all transfer, so I did not bother taking them. It would have been a waste of time. I was much better off taking courses that would transfer than getting an AA along the way. As it was, I erred and ended up with a course or two that wouldn't transfer, but far fewer than had I gotten the AA.

I wish I had you! One of my professors this semester self published a book and charged us $30 for it, the book is a joke, it really is self published.

So insted of $80 I can sped $5 and have $75 left over for a bottle of Vodka, and a couple 12 packs, sweet!
