V for Vendetta

http://vforvendetta.warnerbros.com/

I rented the movie and was surprised by how much I liked it. The movie sends out many competing and conflicting ideas and fails to resolve them all, but even so, it works. I thought the propagandistic element was tedious and heavy-handed -- the same impact and propagandistic goals could have been accomplished with much greater subtlety.

It's an older movie. (2004) I believe. I missed it's release.

Comments?

I. too, was surprised I liked it. The scene where "what's her name" was in prison was incredibly clever. I liked the reniassance music and medievil setting; it added to the surreal plot.

natalie portman... Brain fart!

I thought that scene was especially well written, acted, and directed.

Additionally, I enjoyed the arguments from V concerning the individual's responsibility in the face of injustice. They started out very obvious but became a bit more subtle as the plot progressed.

I believe Ayn Rand would have approved of the movie. Thoughts? Anybody?

Directed by the same team that brought you The Matrix.

Hugo Weaving (V) gets to play the hero, after playing the heavy in the Matrix series (Agent Smith).

Natalie Portman turned a good performance, which proves that she can act and that Lucas cannot direct actors.

Yep. I liked it too. Not least of which was because of NP. Almost a Blade Runner, Brazil, Freejack, 1984 ish quality to it. I have difficulty though seeing much philosophy in it, at least what hasn't been seen before in many other films.

Loved it so much that I bought it...

Problem is, it kind of freaks me out because some of it is a little TOO real, when one compares it to current events....

OK, I meant to see it on the big screen and didn't. With all these accolades, I'll have to get it.

And Natalie Portman... oh baby...

Yes, Natalie can pretty much turn ANY movie into at least a "worth seeing once" flick.

Back when the 1st of the newer Star Wars movies came out, I felt a bit like a dirty old man for checking her out... but now she's LEGAL!!!

She was "legal" by the time that SW-I came out.

If you really want to feel like an old perv watching NP, then go rent The Professional. She was only 15 when that movie came out.
