whats up with michael waltrip?

i see he had a wreck in his street car and left the scene of the accident. he hasn't qualified for the last five races. how long can he survive at this rate?

anybody know what is happening with his team?

he has always been one of my favorite nascar drivers.

He's in a lot of trouble, apparently. Napa and Toyota put a lot of faith (read: money) into him and very little has come from it.

I hadn't heard about the wreck until now (I just searched - article can be read here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070411/ap_on_sp_au_ra_ne/car_nascar_waltrip_accident_3) but it sounds like it was not much to worry about.

I hope he gets his stuff together - kind of a weird dude, but I liked him a lot too. It's a shame to see him fall to pieces like this.

He seems to be self-destructing. My father was always a big MW fan. The change to Toyota wasn't enough for him to give up on him but the not qualifying and his off-the-track incidents have.

No. They need a competition license from the sanctioning body.

it does sound like a possible dui.

i hope he is not self destructing. he is under a lot of weight i think.

hope he pulls through.

a lot of pressure

Who knows what really happened. His place is about 3 miles from my house with many curvy roads. The local news isn't saying much. Nascar guys are kind of protected around here, or Dale Jr would be in the news every day.

Michael has taken on an incredible burden. The team ownership stuff. He bought an old movie theater complex near here as his race shop and is turning it into an interactive fan tour along the lines of Earnharts Garage-mahal. Then the Toyota startup on top of that and the lack of success there.... May be too much for anyone.

Good luck to him and hope he stays shiny side up from now on.

Edit: this just posted on the local tv web site. He was very lucky.
