clean finish in texas nascar race

two of the cleanest drivers in nascar battled it out hammer and tong for the last ten or fifteen laps.

they fought as hard as you can and came close to wrecking, at least once each but refrained from wrecking each other.

jeff burton rightly won with a slightly quicker car. kenseth deliberately placed his car where burton wanted to drive but didn't block blatently at all.

kenseth nearly wrecked on the second turn of the last lap and followed burton home the rest of the way.

tony stewart did a masterful job of keeping his car off the wall and continued on after a 360 degree spin, about 3/4 of the way thru the race.

unfortunately several cars wrecked in his tire smoke. too bad he pushed it too hard and the other guys had to pay for it.

tony is a great racer who reminds me of aj foyt in his prime, but i think he is dirtier than aj was. aj wanted to win more than anything but he stopped short of spinning folks out or causing wrecks.

of course most of ajs wins came in the era of open wheel racing's most dangerous eras when touching wheels could mean instant death.

If it were Jeff Burton and Mark Martin, I'd agree on the cleanest part. But recalling what Kenseth has done to other drivers (like Gordon) in the past, I'd say that's a negative. It was a good finish, but I'd rather have seen Kenseth win, simply because of the way the points are now.

gordon?

i think maybe matt operates on the principal to treat them as they treat him.

gordon is not above a little dirt, inspite of his choir boy demeanor on the podium.

but a great finish, yes?

I like this comercial with the race car drivers sitting in 'traffic class'...

...being asked how much distance they should keep to the car in front, one say 2 or 3 inches ... instructor repeats, 2 or 3 seconds...?

Driver says, I don't stay 2 or 3 seconds behind anybody ....

Ruined my day when Gordon hit the wall. Must have been REAL slick out there for him and Stewart to both lose it. Yes,,, it was a great finish.

it was amazing to see the drivers stuff their cars out 3" from the wall lap after lap.

i like the commercial where jeff burton is being interviewed by an insurance agent and they ask how many accidents in the last three years and he says "nintey six.....but a lot of them weren't my fault."

It was a good finish under the Checkered Flag and NO Stupid driving in the last few laps to force a yellow/checkered flag finish. Texas is a bad luck track for a lot of Nascar's top drivers as was evident Sunday.

Any comments on Juan Pablo Montoya's drive and finish? Is he competitive yet on the ovals? The road courses goes without saying, as he will be giving instruction and classes, during those. Can't wait to see the races.

I'm giving JPM the nickname of Zorro!

eighth i think.

shazam!

i hoped he would pick it up quickly and he certainly has. i read that he was a bit inimidated at first of running up near the wall in the turns but has come to like it.
