Flipper Strikes Back

It's about time nature strikes back at those annoying Waverunner jerks.

Jumping sturgeon hurts watercraft rider Wed Apr 18, 11:46 AM ET

OLD TOWN, Fla. - A sturgeon jumped out of a river and hit a woman riding a personal watercraft, the latest such injury involving the flying fish along the Suwannee River, officials said.

Sharon Touchton, 50, of St. Petersburg, had serious injuries, but she was later discharged from a hospital after the March 31 accident, officials said.

She had been camping with a group of personal watercraft enthusiasts near the town of Suwannee in north Florida, said Karen Parker with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The group went for a ride and Touchton was traveling 25 to 30 mph before the accident.

Touchton's husband was the first to come up behind her after the accident and found her floating face-down in the water. No one else saw the collision, so it was initially unclear what had happened.

She should have just stayed in the area frequented by Manatees. They're easier to run down, can't move fast enough to get out of the way, and sure as hell wouldn't have been able to attack her like that! Maybe next time she'll carry a gun with her in case anymore rogue Sturgeon get any ideas.

Down by me all the guys with big beer bellies and a carpet on their back ride 'em.

The best part is, if they get within 50 ft. of your vessel and become injured... Not your fault.

I wouldn't feel bad if the next time one of them tried to jump a wake... prop-food.

Well, yeah; That describes virtually every New Jerseyian I've ever met, including the women.

Question *** Sturgeon? You've got to be kidding... ***

I'm wondering if it's not really sturgeon, but an Asian Carp, that got the gal...

During the past few years, there's been a growing influx of large, jumping, Asian Carp that, quite literally, jump up out of the water and have been known to knock a few boaters a bit loopy.

Apparently, the sound of the boat's (or water-craft's) motor scares the carp and they "jump" out of the water - then WAM - you've taken a carp in the kisser.

I don't believe I've ever heard of a sturgeon jumping out of the water when a water-craft goes by.

If that were truely the case, Lake Winnebago, in eastern WI., would have tons of stories about the "...one that smacked me and got away..."

Nope, don't believe it...gotta' be the Asian carp...

We used to get our baitfish by idling in the canals at Jamaica Beach early in the morning and keeping all the mullet that jumped into the boat.

At least the lady wasn't hurt, although it's never good to be face down in water for any period of time. I presume they circled around quickly. I presume the fish survived too since it would have gone belly up at some point. Bad timing I guess...or a really hungry fish.

My favorite freeway sights are the lifted pickups or SUV's with the ATV and Waverunner trailers and hang those infantile testicle sacks from the trailer hitches. Do any women find dangling low hanging balls covered in road grease attractive?
