Brings me back to college days. Can you live on $42/wk?

It's kind of tough to figure for us, we usually get a Pea Pod delivery every 2 weeks for about $300 for all of the large, heavy and bulky items and I'm usually at the store once a week for meats on sale, dairy, produce and anything we ran out of or forgot to order. That's usually good for $100-125. I'm guessing we average $250/wk.

$42 a week is about my coffee budget. :freak:

I can get by on $30 a week. I don't really eat a lot mostly salads and pasta.
I buy frozen veggies and I like Potatoes. Baked or mashed. lately I've been into homemade hashbrowns.
I eat a lot of eggs and cereal.

Once in a while I need to splurge but a lot of weeks I don't even bother going to the store. But again it's just me.

My best friend told me he spends around $200 a week. I almost had a heart attack. He has 3 kids and they go through a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread a day!

My oldest is on 9.5yo, rail thin and eats like a teenager. I'm afraid to see what my food bill will be when he is a teenager. :eek:

I read that in the paper. I think it said their budget was $3 per person per day. I haven't tried that in quite a while but I think it would be tough.
Since both my wife and I work at the moment, we find ourselves eating out more than I would like, just because we don't plan ahead enough.

What's your homemade hashbrown recipe? I like to boil the potates until they just begin to soften, put them in frig overnight, slice and cook in vegetable oil until browned. I used to bake the potatoes in the microwave, but I think the boiling retains more moisture and perhaps more sugars.

I have a 30yr old nephew who works in a factory and has 8 kids! I can't imagine that he makes enough money to cover the food bill. Cooking for that many 3 meals a day has to be an exhausting task in itself.

My food bill is a manageable, yet fairly significant, chunk of our total monthly budget. I'd have to think that most of his paycheck is just going towards food. I hope he's got another bread earner in the house.

I do that But I eat fast food. At least I try to eat healthy fast food. Burritos at Moe's. There's a place called Pei Wei that's Asian food. It's like miles ahead of chinese takeout and the food is awesome. Then there's Pizza, lets not go there.
I used to cook them first then my daughter told me she just shreds them raw and fries them up. I tried it and it's very good. saves a lot of trouble. They caramelize nice and are very tasty. I don't spice them much. Salt, pepper and a little ketsup if I don't put a fried egg on them.
His kids are like 12, 6 and 4. Both the younger ones eat more than him and me combined and are rail thin. just like I was at their age!
I could not imagine 8 either. :eek:

$200/week sounds like us for 3.5 people

We volley in the $200 week range. We do 1 grocery store trip a week. The purchaces will overflow the trunk on the 126.

Kids can be a food budget buster, but I have also seen how much a large dog can eat!!

I do the grocery shopping when I am in town. There's only two of us. I have no idea really, but easily 100+ a week. And many times that's with almost no food. Cleaning supplies, toilet tissue, paper towels. We eat out a lot.

Everyone is aware of the price of gas going up. Groceries going up is very subtle and harder to detect. Paper Towels are $1.00 a roll. Steak is through the roof. All meat products are going to go much higher because of our wonderful politicians subsidizing ethanol production. Anything with corn as an ingredient is going only up.

I find shopping for groceries much more irritating than pumping high priced gas.
When the Kroger guy says, "Thanks, and you saved $19.23 today", I say,"No I probably spent $10.00 too much, but I hate going to Wal-Mart."

Hmmmm... At home, its 200ish a week when my sister and I are back from college.

When its my parents and my lil sister at home, it hovers around 125.


Me, personally in college... 40ish a week.
