Exclamation How to removed "Norton Rescue Disc" from my computer?

Hey Guys/Gals,

I installed McAfee on my computer today. Now I keep getting a promt that it won't install completely and protect my pc from viruses because Norton Rescue Disc is still on my computer.

I've looked everywhere (even did a system search) and can't find it to remove it. Until I remove all of Norton, my computer is not protected.

I also did some googleing and didn't find a fix that worked.

HELP!! THis is damn frustrating!!!!!

Yeah. You do NOT want both of those on your computer at the same time! They will really hose it up.

Make sure the onlder one is completely uninstalled before you try to install the newer one.

Yeah, that's what my problem is.

I've been unable to completely uninstall Norton, so now McAfee isn't running either!!

Can't you "restore" your computer to an earlier date (i.e. before the McAfee install), which will keep Norton running correctly.

Then uninstall Norton using add/remove programs or the original installation program.

Then install McAfee.

Personally, I'd say uninstall both of them and get Avast Antivirus Home Ed. It's free, they update practically every other day.. and it's worked a TON better than any commercial product on the market. Only downside is that you need to re-register every year, but that's no big deal. Not only that, but it isn't a total ram hog... unlike norton and mcafee.

Give it a shot!

That's right, Stefano. There is a way to restart your computer using the previous start up sequence. If I can remember how you do that, I will post it unless somebody beats me to it.

My daughter did this about a year ago, which is the only reason I know about it. Of course, that's long enough ago that I've pretty much for gotten how to do it.

I'm still working on this problem.

I did contact a buddy of mine today who works in computers. One of the problems is that the Norton rescue disc is not an installed program-- hence it's not there to remove. Here's what he wrote:

Quote:
Stefano,

Norton Rescue Disk isn't an installed product. It's a disc you would make to use to boot a computer from CD-ROM and scan it for viruses.

A google search suggests this is a McAfee issue, and you're not the only person to have it. I was unable to find a solution, however. (Didn't look very long.) You might try getting support from McAfee and explain that you've used the Norton Removal Tool and there are no Norton products installed, and Norton Rescue Disc isn't even an installable product, so, uh, what's up?

You also might try Kaspersky Antivirus instead. It's a much better product, though costs more. You can download a 30-day trial
http://www.kaspersky.com/
to make sure it works before buying it.
