Looking for temp gauges for real time readings

I have a Porsche 914-8 (Chevy 327) project and overheating is an issue. I am trying to debug the cooling system, and I am trying to find sensors that can be surface mounted to say the upper and lower radiator hoses, and maybe some other places as well. I want to get real time temp readings and I want to measure the temp drop across the radiator. Does anyone know of such devices? I am trying to avoid high dollar data acquisition gear if possible.

thanks
Fred

I have tried that, but I need something I can use while driving, particulary with the hood closed (so the radiator will be under normal conditions).

thanks
Fred

Fred.....A mechanical gauge (cylinder head mounted ) is all you need...........

If it s running HOT....you need more air flow.. bigger radiator..more fan...better water pump...head gaskets on correct?...................

V8 Porches.......... ROCK!!!!

I think that thermocouples might be suitable sensors for such a job.

Hand held, battery powered thermometers are available that can handle two thermocouple sensors, typically with the ability to display the difference between the two temperatures being read as well as the two temperatures themselves. Other hand held units are available that also have datalogging capabilities and interfaces to allow transfer of the data to a personal computer.

Depending on the sensors, one might also need thermocouple extension leads (with the proper wire and connectors) in order to have the meter in a convenient location.
