New MBZ, R-350...UGLY S.O.B.

I saw one of these things heading down the highway the other day...I can't believe Mercedes, went to such lengths, to produce such an ugly car, mini-van, whatever category, it falls into...YUCK..

One wonders if that was the result of the Chrysler half. Lord knows they love their minivans. Why MBZ ever let that one out I'll never know.

The R-class is one of those cross over SUV's.. its basicly a higher station wagon.. My mom has an equinox and she wont succomb to the fact that it is a station wagon with bigger wheels and more ground clearence

Here's a review of the R-350: http://www.thecarconnection.com/Vehicle_Reviews/SUVs_Wagons/2006_Mercedes-Benz_R350_R500.S181.A9010.html

I have no need for a vehicle like an R-350, but at least it appears to have some purpose, unlike the M class Mercedes.

The M-class, R-class, and GL-class make about as much sense as the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, and VW Touareg.

Why, why, why?

More power to 'em if they sell 'em, but I cannot for the life of me understand the fascination with this type of body style. You get the drawbacks of both a car and a truck w/ none of the benefits. Makes ZERO sense to me.

Isn't it a minivan? I have no use for a minivan, but we rented one a few years ago when we needed to take 5 people and a bunch of stuff on a trip. It was great. If I had kids I would definitely consider getting a minivan.

I saw one at the autoshow and thought it was slick. Tons of room, many engine choices and not too mini-vanish.

If I had a few kids, this sucker would be at the top of my list. Esp. the R63 AMG.

Hmmm. Lessee: If I wanted to have a runner drive me and three buddies around for the night and bar hop would I rather be in the vehicle above or a '78 diesel wagon. Tough choice. NOT.

I suppose one could call it a Mercedes minivan.

However - if I am driving a Mercedes, I don't want it to drive or look like a minivan. I want it to look and drive like a Mercedes. I want it to handle like a Mercedes. Therefore, if I needed the extra space for kids and so on, then a Mercedes wagon is the way to go.

If you can't fit everything you need in a MB wagon, then you need to pack lighter.

Families of over 5 are excluded from this, of course.

This is simply my opinion - I would never presume to tell anyone else how to spend their hard-earned money. Just saying I don't want one.

Can't disagree there. On the other hand, I have never had more fun in a car that didn't have a female on-board than I did in my friend's early 70s 4-door Ford Maverick. Of course, I was 18 at the time, so that might have had something to do with it.

The thing I hate the most about the R class, well other then its a minivan is that the seat controls are not on the door! WTF they are on the seats and they suck!

Its ok, its a RWD minivan that you can get a V8 in so its pretty decent.

I like the BMW X5 more though, I really like the X5 its a nice SUV.
