Nice car, for a big block Chevy.....Just kidding, but I bet that one got to you...
What a beauty. I'd trade all of my other MBZ cars, for that thing, and pay out some buku bucks.WOW...

Exquisite. A silver '55 Gullwing with a red interior.

Sweeeeeeet ride! I'm by no means a Benz-centric guy, but I think the gull-wings are about the most beautiful looking cars ever designed.

Ha, ha --!

The ironic thing is eBay's link under the Starting Bid: "Get Low Monthly Payments."

How could you have low monthly payments on $475 grand? Maybe if you put down, say, $455 grand and financed the rest? Though if you can do that, seems to me, you could shell out the whole $475 grand in one pop.

(I know, they have that link on all the car listings. Just seemed funny.)

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

They are selling MY car.

I read that the Gullwing was responsible for bringing Mercedes back from the brink following the destruction caused by WWII.

I also read a story about the Gullwing owned by Clark Gable. He used to drive it to the set of the last movie he made (with Marilyn Monroe). I've always been a fan of CG, could you imagine the cool level of owning CG's former car?

WHAT A CAR!!!

no that was the 170

If I was going to buy that car I would go buy it in person.. not on ebay.

Handsome car. Shame that it was ordered without air conditioning.

AustinsCE 05-31-2007 12:16 PM

What really gets me is this thing had like 8.5:1 compression and made better torque and about equal hp to the 104 engine with the same displacement at 10:1 50 years newer. Nice progress...

The 170 was the workhorse. They were making 170's before the war.

But the Gullwing was the glamour puss that got the world's attention.

Did they even offer A/C on the Gullwing?

And if they did, would it have been any good? The way that the engine and the exhaust were set up in that car, it must have gotten pretty hot in the cabin. Hotter than the primitive German A/C units of the time could handle.

Drive it a little faster with the windows down to get some more circulation. Problem solved! :)

Not completely a hijack, but does anyone remember the story about the Gullwing with zero miles?

Guy ordered every part from the factory, and then piled them up in his garage until he got them all.

Never personally got to put them together, but it was put together by a big-time restorer.

Story was in the "Star" about 10-15 years ago.

....Which reminds me of Johnny Cash’s classic song, “One Piece at a Time.” The song is about an auto factory worker who spends years stealing car parts from the factory to build his own car. When he finally has all the parts and puts the car together, he finds that the parts he’s taken from different makes and models over several years do not fit together properly....

Now this is officially a hijack. I can go on with this dialogue with myself for hours. Stop me please.
