the people in the apartments down the hill don't believe in mufflers...

What is the attraction of taking a battered Honda Civic and putting a totally unrestrictive and LOUD exhaust on it?

And then revving it up really high and driving fast up and down in the parking lot? At 3 AM? Right now? As I type this! I'm just hoping the rubber band breaks soon.

They are in the valley and we are on the ridge, but they are LOUD. Sound travels.

And its still a Honda Civic, which last I checked, was an economy car. Practical. Durable. Not a hot rod.
Why?
Am I too old to get this?

Ann

Yeah its like that in certain areas, around here. Call the police on them.

Thats why I want to move to a more rural area. I hate the city, and Milford is starting to wear thin.

LOL! I'm having a really hard time picturing you reving your diesel and dropping it into drive at 3 AM...

I just don't think that would satisfy the same primitive impulse that doing the same in a Honda Civic seems to provide.

I can see not having mufflers on certain cars, hot rods, drag cars, track cars, etc. For a daily street car it's juvenile.

If you want a sweet sound, get some Magnaflows, Eismann, Borla, or some other sort of quality aftermarket exhaust.

Exclamation *** Time for "NINJA-MAN"... ***

Some night, when they're all stoned/tanked/sauced, take some styrofoam peanuts, some Jello pudding mix, powered sugar and the opposite fuel of the vehicle in question (gas if their's is diesel, diesel if their's is gas), mix up about a gallon, or so, of the stuff...then, when they're in bed, sleeping off their night's bender, you pour the goop into the tank. (Just be sure the tank's cap is easily accessable - like it's not a "lockable" or restricted access deal...)

Keep in mind six simple things:

1. Plan your escape route.
2. Monitor the site/location for any "alarms" (dogs-geese-kid's toys-etc...)
3. Do they have camera gear? If so, fogetdaboutit...
4. Will you be leaving footprints/fingerprints/tire marks behind?
5. Do you have the cajoles to pull it off without involving anyone else?
6. Can you keep your mouth shut about it for more than 5 years?

Now, if you can answer the above appropriately, within the time it takes for the "little hand" to make its way around the dial, your 3AM problem will be a problem no more...

A few years back, I had a "batch of low-lifes" making the rounds in our neighborhood...even "caught" them checking out the cars on our street AFTER these clowns had ransacked my car the night before...

I made a note of the plate and vehicle make, then one day I saw where the "car" was parked. Noted the address.

Within a week, I had "sugared" their tank and then, about a month later, I saw the car at an area "pick and pull" - asked the attendant what the story was...father had brought the car in...kids couldn't get it to stay running...something about the carb was f***ed up and all...

I live to this day knowing the folks in my neighborhood didn't have to worry about these punks being able to "pick and pull" ther cars like they had done mine...

Do I feel bad?

Read my sig...

There are cameras all over the complex.

We checked.

We talk to the police tommorow. The constant in and out traffic - 24/7 - leads me to believe they are not delivering pizzas.

Straight pipes on OM616/617 turbo hardly makes any noise, just a decent grown at higher rpm, the Honda Civic muffler issue is just being anti-social.

Ever tried to keep count of how many extra times they hit the throttle, to move the car three feet..? They must waste so much extra fuel, with all of the unnecessary revs, and floored accelerations. How about the A.R.E. stickers, on stock cars, with steel wheels. Last I checked most of these people don't have anything made by American Racing on their cars. Many of them, can't even afford products made by the companies they advertise for.

Not to mention, if a company wanted me to put their name on so much as a T-shirt, or hat, they'd have to pay ME to advertise for them.
I just don't see the point in free advertising, unless it has my own name on it.

They can keep their "Grape Fruit Shooter", "Coffee Can", exhausts. Just call the cops Ann. I don't really know what else to offer, though I wish I could.

LMAO...that would be oddly satisfying.

Ann - as to the Civic, it's a disease/disorder that extends everywhere. We have them here too. They sit outside at malls, at midnight, working on their cars, with The Fast and The Furious rattling around inside their heads to the point where they believe they are living the movie.

They'll paint their rear DRUM BRAKES red. Drum brakes. On a Civic. Painted red.

Best moment for me was at my old house. There was a long, dead end street across from me. My old neighbourhood was nice, but there was low-income housing/projects near it. So...a lot of gangsta wannabees and a lot of 'riced' out Civics, etc.

They would street race at 3 a.m. outside our house on that street and it would always wake us up. So...one night I waited until they were fully racing to call the cops. Held the phone out the window so that dispatch could hear them.

That worked a treat.

Three cops, including a sergeant, pulled up within a minute or two and they all got busted. My wife and I watched the whole event with smiles on our faces. Best part was that a buddy of mine was one of the cops. He saw my name and address on the dispatch. Spoke with him a few weeks after and he recalled the night and the event and said it was a good bust. Plenty of heads cracked, in a legal sense, of course. Said his sergeant had a great time. There has been a crack down here on street racing after a few deaths.

These kids get into their Civics, with painted drum brakes of course, and speed far past the capacity of the car to safely handle that speed.

Then they become a stain on a tree and their parents hang crosses on the trees for all to see. Sad all around.
