Accepting a pay pal payment

I'm selling a coulple rare volvo parts, and the buyer is overseas. With this he said that he would like to pay me by pay pal. I really do not have any experience with this system, so any advice would be appricaiated. Also, Is this a safe thing for me and also are they going to charge me a fee for this? Thanks for any information,Nick.

Paypal is the way to go on Ebay. No waiting for the mail, no bouncing checks. You get immediate payment and a record of the transaction. You also get charged a fee, but it's well worth it because the money is in your hands and not the mail. I won't buy from sellers who don't accept paypal. It's just not worth the hassle of adding another week or two for the money to be exchanged.

Great for overseas use since you don't have to hassle with the exchange issues.

Another thumbs up for PayPal from me. I was one of their first members, back when they used "Scottie" from Star Trek to hawk their service and paid you $10 for each new referral you sent their way. Imagine that - PayPal paying us, not the other way around? My how times have changed!

If safety is of concern to you, then be aware that for shipments to quite a lot of the world, PayPal won't offer you anything in the way of seller protection. Dispute over the item? Credit card chargeback? Good luck with that.

That hasn't stopped me from accepting PayPal from folks overseas, but I did so with awareness of the potential risks. They were almost all individuals for whom credible historical information was available, too, so I had some confidence that they were on the up and up. I had no problems with those buyers.

I use Paypal, but with my Visa card. I figure if anything goes wrong I can try to get satisfaction from Paypal first, then bring Visa in.

I've received overseas payments from Paypal for my biz (non-Ebay transaction), without a problem. Fees are posted on Paypal's website.

It's cheaper than sending or receiving a wire transfer, and there's no currency exchange costs (IIRC).

If you're thinking of a check as an alternative, don't accept a check unless it's in US funds from a US bank, because the fees will co$t you.

Ditto on the PayPal comments thus far. I've done several auctions "PayPal Only" just for the additional layer of security it offers. Don't feel obligated to sell overseas either if you're not comfortable with the prospect. I generally do U.S. only sales depending on what I'm hawking just because of the ocassional hassles involved with shipping.
