A 2007 Harley Fat Boy, "Screamin' Eagle"...Sitting in my garage, still in the shipping crate. I bought it back in October, from Rossmeyer's, in Florida, at Biketoberfest, 2006. Was on the show floor, but I was in my tractor trailer, so I had them Re-Package the thing, and load it onto my truck, to bring home. I dropped it off at home, and it has not seen the light of day yet.

I also have my 1998 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. I rode the bike this year, from home in Ct. to Key West Florida, and up to North Carolina from there. The bike is sitting in my office, in Greensboro, North Carolina at the moment.

You don't need that Fat Boy taking up space in your garage. Why don't you drop it off sometime on your way up 91N and get it out of your way! I'll give it a good home.

Got run off the road twice with it...both times, ended up upright, on the pegs, screaming inside my helmet so FR**KING LOUD, I couldn't hear myself think...The first F**k ended up with a "boot tattoo" on his driver's door of the Cadillac, the other F**k only has my death-wish following him to this day.

Dumped the bike once, in a trailer park, on a stone/asphalt street...meant to slow the bike down and the front tire "locked up" and slip out from under me...I was going about 5mph at the time and even though I didn't "go down" with the bike, I looked and felt pretty stupid holding my handle-bars down around my ankles...the positioning was all wrong...

I sold the bike in '83 after my FIAT "head-on" - I have a "rod" in my left femur that runs from the knee up to the hip. The doctor said, "If you ever bend that thing, we'll have to cut your leg in half to get it out..." That statement scared me "bikeless" for a few years...

Then, for my 39th B-day, the wifey gave me permission (You DON'T get a bike without consultation and permission!) to buy my present. The Yamaha 650...only one tip-over...otherwise, just idiot tailgaters that I "loogy" on when the opportunity is 100% in my favor for NO RETALIATION on their part...and I mean NO CHANCE THAT THEY'RE COMING BACK AFTER ME.

But, as has been pointed out here MANY TIMES, defensive driving and attitude is what will keep you alive and asphalt-free.

Know your road...
Know your bike...
Know your limits...
and...
Know your bike's limits...

Not knowing any of the above, or even thinking you know, will get you injured or killed.

Cars, trucks, trains and other bikes will always win...you end up the loser...all the way around.

That post kind of took the thunder out of me regarding a possible future purchase of a bike!

That is a great bike to learn on. Easy, simple, robust. Fun to work on.

I like working on motorcycles damn near as much as riding them. Wrenching on a bike is a blast.

Have a bike and started with a CBR 600 then I went to the GSXR 750 then straight to the Hayabusa. They are really fun but you really need to know your limits as well as the bikes limits.

Sorry about that G-Benz!

I didn't mean to be too literal and all...but when it comes to riding, my attitude is; "It's either me or the 'pine-tree box.'" when my @55 is on that seat.

I'm looking places that I never thought I'd look...

I don't want to say you need to be paranoid, at all times, when you're riding, but you do need to be paying attention to ALL THE DETAILS CONCERNING EVERYTHING AROUND YOU, AT ALL TIMES.

"On a bike, once is more than enough."

I am tempted to get a bike again but the fun/danger
ratio is much better on my skate/snow/surf boards.

I recently returned to riding after almost 30 yrs. Bought a '95 BMW R1100R last year; and took the motorcycle safety foundation's basic riders course at the community college. I was surprised at how much harder this course is than I anticipated; 4 of 11 passed. I ride whenever I can, although traffic in Fairfax is very heavy, and always wear proper protective clothing.
regards,
Mark

I want a bike too. I used to race a YZ80 in a local peewee class when I was a kid; crashed coming down from a jump and broke my collarbone and wrist. Mom sold the bike while I was laid up. Thusly my two-wheeled days were pretty much over.
I have been a serious bicyclist for about ten years now. Last November I was involved in an accident with a taxicab. Broke my wrist again.

People you can get killed walking your doggie these days. If you want a motorcycle, treat it like you are purchasing a firearm- be responsible! Don't be an idiot about riding. You can be safe on a bike without compromising your fun factor! Everybody knows it's all about the chicks anyway

When I am driving, and I encounter motorcycles, I will protect them as best I can under the circumstances. I will yield the right of way, I will give them the space they require, and I will watch them closely for signals etc. The guys on the bikes are too fragile to not pay attention to. When I get my bike, probably a Ducati Monster 620 or something smaller like that, I hope others will reciprocate but I doubt it. It's not my riding ability that I am afraid of, it is the other friggin' idiot SUV soccermom cellphone yappers on the road.

I want a bike sooo bad. But I am 21...insurance would be a killer...

I really want an old BMW/Triumph(problems)/Norton(Problems) A BMW R75/R60/R65 would be ideal. I love the old airheads!

No, That's ok , Thanks anyways though, LOL.

Planning on coming off of the road perminently, very soon. It will definately, get it's use when I do. I haven't even heard it run yet, because the dealer, was so quick to get it crated for me, that I didn't even have a chance to get near it. I'm not sure how the warranty will fare, if I have any problems with it, because by the time I get it uncrated, after getting home, it will already be almost a year into warranty which will end in October, a year from purchase date. I know new Harleys typically have a lot of "Bugs" to be worked out. This is why I rode the old reliable Vulcan for the long trip, as I had fears of being stranded, roadside with my new Harley...
