Sold the 533i and the guy abanded it in front of my house!

I called the guy and hung up on me. I have already recieved the money for the car and had him sign a bill of sale. I had bought the car at an aution but never botherd to register it as I never drove it. I wanted a few parts off of it and just wanted it gone. So now I have a car in front of my house that seems to be abonded and I don't have the key or title to give to a wreaking yard. I could call the city, but I'm afraid that that if I do that I will get a fine for not ever registering the car...but I never drove it. So what should I do? Call the scrap metal guy? Thanks.

Is it on the street or in your yard / driveway?

Around here if it sat there long enough it would be towed. If the title is not in your name and you have taken your plate off it I doubt that you will be connected to it. You might even call and complain that it has been sitting there for x days.

I probably would make a discreet call to a friendly policeman that I know and ask what the proceedure is there.

Good luck.

It's on the street in front of my house. really kind of an eyesore and I could use the parking places. I will give the guy until Friday at which time I will call it in if it is not removed and I have not heard from him.

If he's transfered the title into his name, you're off the hook. If he hasn't, make sure you send in you're notice of sale to the state DMV(however they do it in your state), or you'll be liable for any towing and or storage fees, should it get towed away, which will pile up way fast!

It on the street, not on my actual property.

Just be careful....obviously, it's not over in his eyes. Keep a strict eye out for attempts at vandalism/damage to your property.

Out of curiosity, why did the guy buy it if he didn't want it?

Did he pay real money for it?

This one raises more questions than it asks.

You can prove that the car isn't yours. I wouldn't do anything other than confirm with the DOT or licensing agency in your state that the title has been transfered. Your bill of sale should be sufficient. Don't touch the car.

ding ding ding. Rick G is the winner. Doing nothing and letting it sit there to be towed is STUPID and will result in you receiving a bill from the municipality/county for towing and storage.

How about sticking a bundle of flares wrapped in wire and hooked to an alarm clock into the cabin? Leave some Arabic texts on the seat.

Uh. I'm just kidding. Puh-leeze don't do that, okay?

If you do it anyway, as they lock you up just tell them that the idea came from me: I am George W. Bush and I approved this message.

When did he buy it? yesterday? This morning?
Does it drive?

He may have bought the car on an impulse (of couse nobody here would do such a thing) and now he is stuck with a project and no place to put it. One man's trash (you) is another man's treasure; so i wouldn't go messing with his treasure.
But i would tell him that the cops were asking about it and it looks like they might be getting ready to tow it soon. ' You're Just helping him out'.
This way you are the good guy and the city is the bad guy;.. it shifts the focus, And applies pressure.

I know almost first hand. My ex-son-in-law got screwed royal from something similar to this. Cost him way more than the truck was worth before it was over.
