Off to the San Juan river

Heading out to SE Utah this morning to spend 6 days on the San Juan from Sand Island to Clay Hills Crossing. Hard to get a permit in the lottery system nowadays. Rafting friend got one. Will be rowing the 18' Achilles for the first time in 7 years. I'd be more fun in a canoe but my daughter is bringing two friends so it's easier to accomodate novices in a big sluggish grey inflatable than in canoes. Current is pretty fast on this section anyway. It has a steeper gradient than the Colorado in the Grand Canyon but no significant rapids. There's fair number of Anasazi ruins and petroglyphs. Taking along a couple of copies of Edward Abbey's essays to get a good flavor of the Western spirit.

have fun, we will expect a slide show upon your return. Be safe, be happy and check in if you can!

Off the river. Had a good trip. Blew a hydraulic hose on the SLS so stuck in Blanding, UT at the moment. Hope to get it repaired in the am and head home. Hot as hell out here. 107 degrees when we stopped in Mexican Hat. Good thing the river was cold.
