Finally got a video of an autocross and figured out how to post it!
I went to an autocross last week put on by the Porsche Club of America. Very well done and a really nice event. There were only 15 or so participants and there were two instructors available. Funny thing is, I don't drive a Porsche. My friends do and they let me tag along. I did it in my MGB GT and had pretty good times, even compared to the high dollar machinery out there. All in all it was a really good time, not quite the zoo an SCCA event can be, sometimes there's just too many people.

Well done! I like the rims you've got. Which ones are they? I'd like to find some Minilite-style 15 or 16" rims for my TR6. Just rounded up a vintage pair of 5" driving lights, too. That leaves them, the Monza exhaust, Moss competition springs, front Konis, rear shock conversion kit, and Goodparts tri-carb manifold to install. It's going to be a busy winter!

Glad you could take advantage of the Porsche club's noblesse oblige and run the autocross. They are really fun, aren't they?
Those early BGT's look so "right"- NOT the later ones, and much much better than the roadsters, too. They were pretty much the first mass produced hatchback GT coupes, and somehow they got it just right. I really like the look of them, they are real sports cars, and yours looks in fine nick. Most of them were run pretty hard, and not taken care of very well.

I have always liked the clean simple look of the BGT.
Of course it is a pretty good rendering of a pinanfarina Ferrari body in the 250 variety but with an MG grill. I think the copying was done by Pinanfarina though so its OK. Tom W

What a sweet little car. I love those old coupes and roadsters. Miatas too, great cars.
What a sweet sounding exhaust note... what kind of engine?

Its a stock 1.8, but bored 60 over with a fast road cam. The exhaust is actually stock. The wheels are 15" instead of 14. I've got the suspension as good as it gets without a panhard rod or just switching over to telescopics all around and its not happenning for $$$$ reasons. The main weakness is the tires: Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's. A great street tire but with a good autocross tire I could probably take a few seconds off.
I really enjoyed doing this autocross, mainly because of the psychologies involved. You know, you do an SCCA autocross and its like being at an amusement park, all kinds of people are there and there is a definite democratric flair to it all, its just "drive what you brung". At this event there were like 14 drivers. It was so private, as if the drivers were rehearsing in private for some unknown public exhibition when everything would be perfect, no misstep could be publisized. There was one guy who brought a Mustang Cobra from maybe 8 years ago. A nice car, no doubt. He says to me, you know I used to have an MG back in 1971. I thought it was great until I drove something with more capability. Sure, I have no problem with that. Thing is he didn't beat my time, and I'd be lying if I didn't get a great deal of pleasure from that.

That's a 4 banger? That's amazing, I thought it was something way bigger. Sounds rather muscular for such a little thing. Stock exhaust system?

I had a '67, "Sandy Beige," all stock save for a cherry bomb muffler, with wire wheels. That was a sweet sounding car.
