A few years ago, my father hired a fair number of family and friends to assist in building his house. I won't go into details about the quality of their work, but if it were not for the fear of damaging some relationships, a few of those folks would have had their asses pan-fried in court.

I have and continue to do business with my family. We have an understanding, business is business and family is family. We won't try to screw eachother, but you get no favors.

There's something about automobiles that definitely should be avoided with families.

It appears that a vehicle had better operated flawlessly from the time you recommend it's purchase until it's dumped after 10 years of neglect. Any repairs or breakdowns are reflected back on you as the person who recommended such a vehicle.

No more family vehicle recommendations..............

I used to offer things I had for sale to family. Quite often they would push for the "family" discount. When things break I get roped into fixing them. Yep. I agree 100%. Usually try to avoid family business deals. With my brothers and I, we are fine and we're all close and there are no issues. We frequently help each other and do business together. However, I have recommended and purchased items/services for more distant family members etc. and when there are issues guilt arises and there is the inevitable ill feelings. So...lesson learned the hard way.
