Pay it forward

Anyone follow this concept? You help someone in need by giving them some money. Then you eventually get it back?

Today I made another deposit. Guys car broke down and I gave him $20 for a cab to work. Hey he was a fellow LIFER, I knew that from his uniform. What could I do?

Anyway early on this winter I gave this guy money for a lift ticket. Later on I was in WI and due to some rescheduling, decided to have breakfast with a friend. Trouble is neither of us were prepared and we had $5 between the both of us. The lady in front of us flipped us a $20 bill and said, "pay it forward."

Cool eh?

Although I seldom do it with money, I often help strangers and accept help from them too.

Less now than I did back in the sixties and seventies.

Yup, I saw the movie as well and I did it not too long ago to show off for a girl.

I was in my convertible at a red light and some ugly ass bum walked up to the car with a torn and dirty Dunkin Donuts coffee cup. I never keep change in the car since I hate loose stuff so I gave the poor bastard a 50 dollar bill. The girl was impressed and she thought I was nice. Anyway, I'm still waiting for my PAY IT FORWARD to get back to me. Any ideas how long this takes?

As soon as somebody give me my first million I will give three people each a million.

No problem.

I do nice things without expecting to get it back.

Like last year when I went bowling with a bunch of old high school friends. One due to family circumstances couldn't really afford to do much other then hang out. So I paid his way for the night, whatever I didn't want him to be the odd one out. When he got a job he bought me a bunch of drinks, so I guess it was returned but I wasn't keeping tack.

I think you should do nice things, just because, not for something in return.

Dude, if you seek a name change for the sake of anonymity and then announce that you are doing so, you have defeated your stated purpose. If you want anonymity ask the mods to delete the current ID and then logon under a new one.

For all of the good it would do. Within like 5 posts you'd be suspected, accused and confirmed.

Absolutely true. I too seldom do it with actual dollars, but something MUCH more valuable (at least to me) -- my time. And the reward it reaps is countless and priceless.

The key is to not expect anything in return -- just watch and wait. You learn a lot about people via their reciprocal actions.

I don't follow the concept per se, although I do help when I can, but I am convinced of the existence because of my sister. She's somewhat of a free-spirit, an artist-type who has lived in New Hampshire and New Mexico and now lives in Chicago with her boyfriend in the second beautiful apt. in a 3 family house that they've gotten for (compared to here) dirt cheap because the owners just want someone in there who will take care of the place and got her name through the grapevine. She works at a brewing and hydroponics supply store, sells some art when she feels like it, enjoys life, travels the states, plays in an adult kickball league and just generally does nice things for people and has people help her out. She's just one of those people who have that ray of sun shining on her all of the time. She's like a bizarro me

When you brag about paying it forward, you don't get paid back.
