40 year old teacher weds 16 year old

Something's not right about this.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,285794,00.html

Quote:
WILMINGTON, N.C. — The school district that employed a 40-year-old high-school science teacher and cross-country coach who married a 16-year-old student could find no reason to fire him, school officials said.

Brenton Wuchae coached Windy Hager at South Brunswick High School, where she recently completed her sophomore year as one of the school's top runners.

Wuchae resigned his position and, according to a marriage license, married Hager after the girl's parents begrudgingly gave their consent.

Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Katie McGee said both the school system and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office investigated Wuchae's case but did not come up with enough evidence that would merit charging or even firing the coach.

"As a lifelong educator, I am truly shocked and disheartened by what has transpired," McGee said.

Oh, come on! I'm sure they'll be very happy together. What makes everybody think this marriage won't work out?

One morning she's gonna wake up and see that wrinkled old bag next to her and say "OMG!".

I fail to see the problem. Her parents consented, after all.

We forget that prior to the 19th and 20th centuries, people frequently married and started shouldering adult responsibilities at 15 or 16. And women often married much older men; such men were thought of as "stable" and as "good providers."

Recall the story of Will and Ariel Durant. She was 13 years his junior, a 15-year-old student at the school where he taught. According to http://www.willdurant.com/ariel.htm:

"By the time she reached the age of 15, teacher [Will Durant] and student [Chaya Kaufman, later "Ariel"] had fallen in love. Realizing the potential problems that would attend such a student-teacher relationship, Durant resigned his position. . . . Despite some initial misgivings, Mrs. Kaufman in time gave her consent to the union and accompanied Will Durant to City Hall to witness the marriage. Chaya herself almost missed the service, as she had opted to roller skate to the locale and, to everyone’s relief (and after one or two falls en route) Chaya arrived at City Hall – out of breath, but ready to start a new chapter in her life as a married woman."

This was in 1913, folks. They stayed married and (by all accounts) in love and as working partners for almost 70 years.

Sure, these two in the news story risk divorce . . . but so do couples who marry at 35.

Who Will Burp The Bride?

I understand that the wedding ceremony will be conducted at recess. The baby's name is expected to be Jerry Lee.

Would you sign the consent if it was your daughter?

Well, if I had an I.Q. of 35 and my cousin was also my father and my uncle, why not?

I would say normally a 40 yo with a 16 yo wouldn't be the best way to go but I've know some precocious 16 year olds.

When I had the ballet scholarship in Seattle, at one point by main partner was 16 and I 25. It sure felt right to me, she had a huge crush, and I still dream about her bod. I didn't feel that much more mature than her but then again, 25 is not 40.

I tried to take her to a major ballet once but her parents wouldn't allow it. Never did push the issue or look for any sort of consummation.

In the realm of mammals, a 40 year old male with a 16 year old female (adjust for relative ages in the species) is very common. We're attempting to usurp instinct with reason and I'm not sure it's always the best way to go.

Good Lord, a 16 year old virgin female can put a STRONG mojo. Ignoring that over and over has its price in the male libido, methinks.

If he resigned why are they worried about firing him? I think the situation is wrong, but that's just me.

No sanctity left anymore, out here a 60 year old college lecturer and a 20 year old female student prophesied their love for each other much to the opposition of the families on both sides, this sort of behavior would totally ruin the integrity and standing of any institutions where there is interaction between old and young, teachers and professors are supposed to be over all this and they are not allowed to use the excuse, I am human after all.

I'm 47, Tab's 30. I'm young for my age, she's an old hippie in a young womans body. It works but, sometimes I wonder...

I can't imagine any decent communications between a 40 and a 16 yr old.
Another divorce just around the corner.

BTW, What is the divorce rate these days. I heard 51% a couple of yrs ago.
