What Do You Do To Relax?

I do yoga, read or watch the boob tube.

I can't help but laugh at the irony of looking at your avatar and the fact that you refered to the TV as the "boob tube."

Ditto on the yoga, though I feel relaxed after, not during.

Listening to good radio: Garrison Keillor, Art Bell and a local AM radio host, "T.D. Mischke" He's like Keillor on acid.

Running when the weather's cool.

When I lived in the country, an early morning drive. No radio, windows down.

I really hate to say this, but I get immeasurable enjoyment from being in the garage, fussing over the Benzes and sipping an MGD or two.

Depends on the stress level. If I am super stressed, I will work on the cars.

Semi stressed, I have a 32" HDTV LCD in my bedroom that I like to watch from my bed.

Kinda stressed, I got a nice chair that I like to take naps in.

what is this Relax you speak of?

Dubyagee 06-22-2007 08:59 PM

I sit on the back porch and watch the trees sway in the wind. I am usually sippin a rum and coke.

Lift weights, do Yoga and meditation and of course, music, no life without music. Also indulge in cooking, one of the most rewarding of pastimes and occasional fine spirits.

Relax? what the heck does that mean?? Between working 40-50 hours a week and going to school fulltime, i seem to have forgotten what that five letter word means. I like to go out drinking with friends, i guess that COULD be described as "relax", but its more just to maintain a semblence of a social life.

I am doing it.

When not doing this, reading mostly non fiction, watching a dvd or on weekends I might contest an autocross with my 280e euro.

Other than those things I love to bounce the grandchildren on my knee (figuratively speaking).

About a week ago I had the pleasure of watching my #2 grand son for three hours by myself (granma was busy). We ran through the sprinkler, took a long walk and watched Blues clues when it started getting dark. Bliss.

This is not supposed to be relaxation, rather nothing. However after some time, there are certain things that happen to the mind. Possibly relaxation?

So....

Had to write this: Zazen (seated meditation)

The method is the "method of no method" a form of mindfulness called Shikanaza. One transcends, goes beyond the thinking mind.

While sitting one should not think about the sitting, but "really" sit, being one with the sitting. The moment one stops thinking about methods or other things, the correct way suddenly appears. From the viewpoint of Zen, thoughts are a fundamental problem. Most of the time we don't really do things, but rather think about them.

You can find zen in everyday activities. Wrenching, reading, ****ting, cooking... It's mindfulness of that particular activity and not thinking about anything else but what is going on at that moment.

I go for a drive or write programs..although that isn't as relaxing as it used to be a year or 2 ago when I was only doing it for fun.. (I now end up coding my friends websites, mostly the server-side stuff, but yet.. I still never get paid)

Fishing.. I guess

Whiskeydan 06-22-2007 10:07 PM

I never knew much about cows until the last couple of yrs. Often when I am at the ranch checking on things I have noticed how relaxed I feel when I am in their company.
I've even found myself sitting down next to them while they sit and "chew the cud". I'll chew gum just so I fit it. ;)
Weird, I know but, it's amazing how relaxed I feel.

Hey, I've almost 1K post! Got to go count down...
