Well Sir,My hunting buddies and my vet categorically state this pup {Shadow,as my daughter named him} should be 85-95lbs,but long and slender like a Weimaraner,altogether a very large and fast dog.

It may be worth noting both my pointer and my black Lab could not sustain large geese or turkeys,and since my gun buddies were of the same opinion we decided to do some selective breeding:eek:

Time will tell but at 3 months the cross-bred traits are beginning to manifest themselves,this guy is fast AND he has endurance!

While I currently cage him during the night{he just started sleeping thru 'til 5 a.m.} He does nap with me on the bed and sleep in my lap when I'm on the verandah reading and drinking:eek:

The ideal hunting dog I conclude should be simply an extension of one's persona,so closely integrated that no words or commands need be given at the best of times,this takes a great deal of boring,repetative training but it has borne fruit in the past.

Despite my wife's initial protests all my hunting dogs have slept in my bed or at the foot of the bed when "other matters"intrude....in fact they are the most ideal companions since they rarely talk back and always are happy to greet you without inquiring about the laundry,the mess in the basement or when the trimwork on the house will be painted.......

Hmmmmm...........The NY authoress Fran Liebowitz has opined that dogs should not be allowed on the living room furniture unless they could hold their own in the conversation.......

Also, that there are two preferred modes of transportation in NY: by bus, and by ambulance.

Are you using the dog to hunt turkey?

Turkey and geese when he's trained,possibly ring necks and grouse.

As mentioned in the pic taken yesterday he's just 3 months old so his domestic training is by no means complete either.

He looks good and it seems like a good mix. Some guys here are mixing Britannys with Labs and having good success with combo upland pointer and ducks dogs.

For turkey people are using mutt's during the fall hunt with varying degree's of success I'm not close to being convinced that it is a worthwhile way to hunt fall birds-around here- I think it would be more successful in BIG woods.

BTW, when I had my entire heating and air conditioning system in my house replaced last year, I had several HVAC companies come over and give me bids.

One guy showed up in his big work truck, a bobtail truck, with the words "Baron's Heating and Air" written in large, red letters, with a picture of a weimaraner piloting a WWI style bi-plane.

He named his company after his beloved weimaraner who passed away.

Being a dog lover, I immediately hired him on the spot. :D

I don't like an audience when "other matters intrude."

Especially audience members with large teeth and weighing close to a hundred pounds (our Akita). :D
