To the parents out there....

Support your children, even if you disagree with them!

I had a friend decide to end his life early, because he was going through rough times.

He had been in and out of school over the past 2 years, but made a commitment to keep with it last December. He was pretty close to finishing, IIRC just 3 or 4 months until he had all of his certifications. About a month ago, him and his GF broke up, and things because rough. He started to not go to class, and his parents were getting angry that he wasn't going to class. He didn't want the support from the friends group, and eventually went to seek support from his parents. They were pretty upset that he had stopped going to school, so they turned him away.

Fast forward to last Thursday, we received word that he decided the end his life early.

Such a nice guy too - always had a smile on his face. Loved all things motorized - one of the guys that got me hooked on bikes...

RIP buddy.

Hate to say it - but I wonder what his obit will say.

Sorry for your loss. I have lost family due to suicide and understand something of the pain.

Sorry to hear that, Justin.

Lost my buddy, Tom, to suicide a couple years after high school. Happy fun-loving kid, successful father and family business. I think all of the pressures just got to him. Never had any signs there was anything wrong until the end result.

I hope we've laid the groundwork with my kids so that they know they can always come to us.

My sympathies. One of my wife's students committed suicide a few years back. Very tough time. Take some time to talk to his parents.

Parents need to start C O M M U N I C A T I N G with their kids at a very, very early age.
Doing so will allow problems of life to be addressed before they become inferno's.

Next to impossible to commence communicating in the middle of any kind of crisis.

They are your kids. Be a parent.

Possibly far more common than we think. Depression can be hard to spot as it takes different forms as well.

My sympathies as well.

And for his parents, too. That's going to be an awfully heavy burden of guilt they carry around for the rest of their lives.

I hope you can all find some way to heal constructively. Suicide is really an awful thing to do to those you leave behind.

Good luck to you, and his friends and family, too.
