So, Gurkah, are you actually in India now? I wasn't sure if you live there now or were from there.

The images that I usually see of India are not indicative of the types of facilities that you describe. I suppose that's another case of how the media shapes our opinions of things.

The images you see are from typically jaundiced press sadly where everything negative gets highlighted to the max, I guess the press here is no better, west is potrayed to be moral less decadent place where money is prime and women are easy.

I do to and fro between my house in NY and India.

That's quite a commute. I'll never complain about mine again!

True, but I am quite used to the 17 hour trips by now, sometimes one is lucky when some interesting person is sitting next to you. Maybe one day supersonic travel would reduce the number of hours.

and how do you know which doctor is right and the other is wrong?

You don't see many surgical innovations coming from India.

You don't see a lot of automotive innovations coming out of Japan either, but the cars seem to be pretty dependable, if somewhat uninspired-looking . . .

Here's a "surgical innovation" from India. I'm not too sure I would consider a real
positive innovation

Guys, do some digging if you want. India is currently very well-respected in several medical areas, cardiac surgery likely being at the forefront. It's not that they have particularily innovative technology - most of the best R&D is done in the US - but rather their surgery outcomes are among the best anywhere. Procedural innovations are likely the source.

I cannot vouch whether teen surgeons are resonsible for said success.

They train here and go back, therefore it is "our" talent.

Traditionally, that is true AFAIK, but I believe that surgeons from the US and beyond are now going there for training on certain surgical procedures (but this is rapidly going beyond my scope of knowledge on the subject).

There have been many ground breaking surgeries, research on tropical medicine done here in India but they get way less publicity, please don't ASS+UME, do some reading first, no one is stealing your talent, and even if they are done in US, many of the scientists and doctors and researchers involved are Indians, India or Indians have won Nobel prizes for ground breaking research and innovations.

Attack the Indians it is now, jealousy is one thing, but learn to give the devil the due.

Several years ago there was a scandal about American doctors going to India (and other countries) to practice experimental surgeries. Also there's the occaisional rumor about organ harvesting for profit.
