The bad advice thread

Anyone ever receive bad advice? Like ridiculous advice? Here's one I got when I was about 13.

If you're gonna race, make sure you stop smoking about a week before the event. You'll be fine.

If you think that's a hornet's nest, stick your arm inside it and feel aaround.

No, I never actually got that as advice, but it's what popped into my head when I read the name of this thread.

A good deal of the medical advice around here is pretty bad.

Q: "There's blood coming out of my ear, what should I do"

A: "Just ice it for a few hours"

Changing oil is just a waste of time and money!

Save the environment.

A quote from Henry Ford when Volkswagen was offered for sale just after WW2:

"I don't think what we're being offered here is worth a damm"...
