I didn't notice that that was a 600.

I am truly impressed now.

But the overall effect is still that I want to say "what was he thinking?"

But the fact that it was all done with a 600 is most impressive. I hope he started with one that had been hit in the rear instead of cutting up a good car.

Considering the obvious time, money and effort invested, does the diamond plate floor in the bed strike anyone else as out of place?

The blue MB 600 Pickup was Karl Middelhauve's car. I suspect that the other one is his second creation. I saw the first one at the M-100 meet in Charleston, SC in 2005. Karl runs a restoration shop that specializes in these cars.

Here is a little more detail on the truck

M.G.

Kuan and I were there Saturday, earlier in the day. What time did you arrive? Should have dropped one of us a line.

Ya, I thought of Middelhauve as soon as I saw it. He also did a 600 2-door coupe which is extremely nice.

If everything goes per schedule, a second version, called "EL BENZO" should be ready next year, featuring a turbo, computerized fuel management system, and a modified GM 440 transmission with a true torque converter, etc.
There you go.

And the red coupe is currently listed for sale. I'll chip in a five spot

Yah...Kuan mentioned that he'd had been to the "All-German-Car-Show" the day before...

I had wanted to come up and see that, but I had already registered for the Sunday show...(funds were a "bit squeeky" - if you know what I mean! )

The wifey and I arrived around 0930 Sunday morning - registered and parked in front of the Ordway...I have a disc of shots that I took that day...mine was the only W123 in the show...didn't win anything...daily drivers usually aren't as "showy" as the trailer/garage-queens!

But, the sun-roof and the central-locking worked flawlessly when asked to perform for the judges...even one of the judges wasn't aware that the locks operated on vaccuum. He was impressed about the system even being able to lock the gas-cap door. I was able to demonstrate that during the judging segment...however, I didn't get a plaque or trophy.

But, I did get one hell of 2nd-degree toasting on the noggin' - damn hair, must have left it at home, or something...

I would have thought you "Twin-Cities" types would have come out Sunday to see what was in your back yard...

Next time, I'll remember to remove the "foil-cap" and post a better travel itinerary!

'Til the next show...

We're all in church Sunday! Good Lutherans -- (I've strayed from the flock).

Yeah, let us know when you come 'round these parts.

You missed the "Back to the 50's" car show at the MN state fairgrounds. Nearly 12,000 cars registered that Saturday. I spent a good 5 hrs walking around, a dizzying array of oldies. Pure heaven. Only so many car shows one can goto I guess.

Howdy Ted,
Mercedes built G wagen pick-ups. I don't think any made it to the U.S.
