my dogs HATE fireworks

My beasties have been going bonkers the last couple of evenings, they bark and snarl every time a genius lights off some fireworks. Does anyone else have dog v. fireworks issues?

My Great Dane hates fireworks as well. She gets nervous, and hides when she hears them. She gets all shakey too. Its good that it only happens once a year. I love my pooch.

I don't have any dogs but I get cranky when they are popping off all over the place.

The reason is what we hear on average, they hear it amplified about 300% more causing them severe pain, they have far better hearing and this is the price they pay for human folly.

Howdy All,
None of mine are bothered by fire works. If there is a loud boom like the shuttle my insecure dog looks to Chime. When he sees her he relaxes.

My cat freaks out over them and I'm not too crazy about them myself. I honestly don't see why fireworks should be allowed in the hands of the general public. Of course, that somehow makes me the unpatriotic neighborhood curmudgeon.

They are illegal to sell here but the law is widely ignored.

The laws around here are a mish-mash, in most municipalities, you can't buy them or set them off, but in many unincorporated areas they can be sold, but not set off?! The result is fireworks stands popping up in outlying areas, with people coming from all around to buy them. Any unless you hurt someone or burn your neighbor's house down shooting off illegal fireworks, very little enforcement is done, especially around holidays. The bigger problem in the city is people shooting guns in the air...

Our 2 gogs have different opinions,

A good example is when I was walking the 2 of them last 4th.

Julia ( the Flat Coat.) was new and about 4 months old; Kayla ( The Lab mix.) was about 1.5 yrs old.

My neighbors were lighting off rockets in the street, Kayla is pulling me back to the house as best she could; and there was a 2' long used rocket on the floor that Julia picked up like a new toy and carried home with her.

Tonight it is pretty quiet so far. Silence before the "storm".

Talk to your vet about doggie tranquilizers if they're really having a problem.

We have 2 dogs a husky and a lab. Both about 10-months old. I blew off many fireworks with both dogs watching and they didnt even huff, puff, or bark at all. Just looked at the sparkling lights set off by the fireworks.

I even had some loud pickelo peets that even hurt my ears when i set one off and the dogs just watched them make noise.

My neighbors dog goes crazy when he hears any noise. It's never quiet.

When they first started going off the dogs barked like crazy. But they (3 dachshunds) stopped after a while.

Mistress, she sounds like royalty (I'm sure she is)!
