Prepaid SIM Card?

I'll be where it will be helpful to have a cell phone for a week. Can I buy a prepaid SIM card for use for a week? Are these things universal? I don't need to make overseas calls or anything; I just want to have phone service for a week.

I have a perfectly functioning cell phone except the service contract lapsed.

I'm basically cell phone incompatible, so please work with me and explain to me like I'm a 5 year old.

Thanks

If your phone is unlocked it will be no problem, sometimes if you call your cell carrier they will give you the unlock code.

If not buy a 14.99 go phone @ Walmart.

I may be explaining this wrong. I just want to buy a SIM card to use for a week. I don't want an annual contract. I'll be willing to pay on a per call basis, or whatever.

What country are you from and what carrier?

The Go Phones have no contract or anything like that. You get a cheap cell phone and a 30 minutes for $14.99 and sometimes cheaper.

Rite Aid also has a good selection of prepaid phones.

Country is Nooo Yawk. Carrier is T Mobile.

What I was thinking is that I have a perfectly good unused Nokia phone and just thought I could activate it it with a SIM card.

Not trying to cheat the system or anything.

Buy a Tmobile prepaid SIM and you are good to go.

Lots of them available on EBay.

You can get T-Mobile, Cingular, and others. Since your phone is possibly still locked to being able to use only T-Mobile SIM cards, I would suggest you go with a T-Mobile pre-paid SIM card. That will work fine if T-Mobile has network coverage where you are going.
