Smart for Two

I saw a Smart for Two today for the first time. I guess they are usefull in the medieval city centers of Europe but my only thought upon seeing it was what a ghastly mobile coffin.

Hard to argue with the laws of kinesthetics. I wouldn't want one though, even though they are pretty sturdy little things for their tiny size.

I saw an ad for a motorhome this week which had a garage in the back with a Smart car included.
The 70mph into a concrete wall video that was posted here last year was pretty impressive.

Part of the safety principle of the Smart Car is that it 'borrows' crumple zone from the other car. I have seen a crash video with a Smart Car vs. a W211 and a W220. The passengers in the Mercs would be safe, however, the cars took a death blow from the Smart Car. Now if a Smart Car hit a Kia Rio it would be for the people in the Kia.

I think such a vehicle would be fantastic for running around town doing errands.

Anything less than 15 miles or so..........it's perfect.

I definitely would not want to compete with it at 70 mph.

I saw one that was driving through downtown Denver yesterday. No personal offense to the driver, but that had to be one of the most gay looking cars I've ever seen.

Combine that with the cr@ppy build quality, cr@ppy tranny, cr@ppy fuel economy (relatively), non-MB g@s engine and being a porked out for America, No thanks. You couldn't pay me to own one.

I still laugh when I think about the ZAP dealership down in Elizabeth that tried to talk me into paying $28,000 for one.

The 1st smart I saw was parked right behind an audi in a parallel spot in the financial district of SF. It was pretty cool because the audi still had room to get out and the two were within the lines. Classic, I should have snapped a photo.

We've had them here for years now. I see them every day every where. Napa uses them for deliveries and so do a lot of the restaurants.
