Anyone Have a Fingernail Fall Off?

Mine's almost finished falling off.

Should I pull it off or leave it alone? Will it grow back?

Slammed it in the ML430's door. Should I post this in the ML forum?

Unless you smashed off the nail bed, which is on the finger bone, you don't have to worry about it not growing back.

It would be different if you did it with the hood or trunk (hatch back in the case of the ML). But because it was a door you should be alright.

There should be a new nail growing underneath pushing the old wrinkly one away. It will work itself free over time. Trimming it helps as I had my left toenail 50% ripped off when I had open toed shoes and a heavy door release in front of me. It took a year to completely grow back to normal.

I think it's best to remove the old nail or at least trim it back, mainly so you don't snag/catch it on something.
Yes it well grow back.

From long distance running, I've had the nails on my big toe "fall off" . . . it's not an issue, just kinda creepy.

Sorry Johnhef... for smashing your thumb. Hope it heals fast.

al76slc, your fingernail will grow back but may not be as smooth as the smashed one, but will definitely grow back. Let it fall of while trimming it as the new nail pushed it out...

In 1985 I smashed mine in a 1985 Camaro door. I just let it fall off at it's own pace.

You need to milk this for all it's worth---- "Oh can you hand me that my thumb is really sore and I can't pick it up." Oh can you do the laundry, my hand still hurts...Hef- you need to be creative with this. i guess we won't be doing the ac conversion until your thumb heals....

Let the nail fall off on it's own it'll look like he@# and will grow back. Like a lizard's tail.

oh I don't have to worry about milking that... I've had a up and down fever since monday w/ a high of 102.5 tuesday night after taking tuesday off, but fooled me wednesday morning by coming back down to 98. went to work wednesday to replace a m271 cylinder head (what luck I have) and sure enough started getting chills and sweats again took me all day to get it off and most of the next day to get the new one on. been feeling that way all this week, even today too.

but to get back on track the nail is doing good and the center part is starting to return to pink again so it looks like crisis averted
