Lifest 2007 Becomes Deathfest 2007

Summer ain't so fun...

Woman Dies Falling 40 To 50 Feet From Bungee Ride

(AP) Oshkosh, Wis. A female on a swing ride at a Christian festival suffered a fatal fall Saturday afternoon, plunging about 45 feet to the ground and laying motionless before being taken to a hospital, police said.

She was pronounced dead several hours later.

Workers at the Lifest 2007 event shut down the Air Glory ride after the accident, which occurred about 4:45 p.m.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. and the music festival resumed about 7:30 p.m.

"We're taking it really seriously. It doesn't feel very festive right now," said Wes Halula, spokesman for Life! Promotions, which organizes the event.

Lifest is an annual Christian music festival that also features rides and sports.

An announcement about the death was made from a stage just after 9:30 p.m. The music continued but with more mellow worship songs.

"We thought it would be the right thing for them to do to play tonight," Halula said.

Oshkosh Police Sgt. Todd Wrage said few details were available Saturday night.

"What we do know, from the reports we've gotten, is that she apparently fell 40 to 50 feet," Wrage said.

The Air Glory ride is described as a ride whose mechanism is similar to bungee-jumping.

Air Glory makes "grown men scream like little girls," according to the Lifest Web site, which says the ride begins by launching two to three people almost 100 feet in the air.

"Then when you are overcome with total madness, you will pull your own rip-cord launching the 2 or 3 of you into a freefall glide to earth with the force of 3 1/2 G's (This is where the screaming comes in)," the description says.

Brian Childers of Kenosha was in line for the ride and witnessed the fall.

Two people went up in the ride, and when they pulled the release Childers said he heard a snapping sound. One person fell and the other remained swinging in the ride, he said.

"(The person) hit the ground and she was not moving at all," Childers told the Oshkosh Northwestern newspaper.

Well, perhaps it's simply me. But I would pronounce anyone willing to risk their lives in such a cavalier fashion as stupid.

I'll take a wild guess-- She was confident where she'd be going should she die.

I'm missing the "Christian" connection here. I think anyone, regardless of their religion, is somewhat nutty to try this kind of stuff.

I found the name ironic, nothing against Christians.

Barring the oddball event, I would say you are at more risk driving down the road than Bungee Jumping.

Lifest is the name of the event. It turned out to be a death in the group. See the humor now?

ALL Chrstians are complete nut jobs...I mean, just who, and what they are, and their silly little worships, etc. They're all crazy. They probably said."OH UH, I GUESS THAT'S WHAT GOD WANTED..HE WAS CALLING HER, I WAS IN LINE, AND I THOUGHT I HEARD SOMEONE CALLING HER NAME" They're friggin' looney toons, all of them..SHEESH..I hate religeous groups, well, religion in general. I'm an Atheist though..I just hope she wasn't a hottie, we need to keep the hotties around, even the looney toon Christian ones. Anyone tell me, Did she own, or drive a Mercedes by any chance..?

I guess, but I don't think anyone would find any humor in a big Goth/Emo event called Deathfest in which everyone came home alive...

And no, I don't have specifics; but it could happen...

Besides, shouldn't lifefest be spelled, well, like I spelled it? "Lifest" makes me think of a celebration of soap.

Sorry, just didn't see the humor. Bad Peragro.

Then I'd call it false advertisement.

Now wait a minute Sport,in the rich tradition of Dicken's David Copperfield ol'Truckles "sets us right again" as did Mr.Dick did in the aforementioned novel.

Besides, he's simply calling things as he sees them, only without the social restraints that have been inculcated into our personas since childhood, like I said before, cut the guy some slack, why don'cha.

You say it as tho it were a bad thing. Perhaps it would be better without those stupid restraints where people say what they mean and mean what they say.
