how to deal with possible scam??
my girlfriends kid just received a letter in the mail from a company called (enisa financial)in the text of the letter it says this is a notification of an annual promotion for north american telecommunications co's,like nextel, sprint etc.the drawing was held on may 15th"we are pleased to inform you that your the 10th place winner".a lum sum of 49,000 dollars will be awarded to you.(enclosed you will find a check for 2950.00 to cover taxes, clearance fees etc.upon confirmation the remaining 46,050 will be immediately awarded to you).the check has security features like the microprinting and watermark.i just did a search for the founders credit union it is drawn from and they have a web site.now what makes me think this is a scam.1 he didn't get his cell phone until the 22nd of may, 1 week AFTER the drawing!2.the check was issued by:moneygram payment systems of minneapolis mn.3.founders credit union is in south carolina.4.the contact phone numbers are in canada.this thing just smells of a scam yet it still looks somewhat official.i just know when he would call to confirm that they would ask for his social security number etc etc.i've had thoughts of contacting the state attorney general to see if this is genuine or bogus.i need some ideas as to what to do??

It's a scam. Your bank can validate the authenticity of the check to give you piece of mind other than that throw it in the round file.
