Can anyone reccommend a good "collector car" insurance co?

Here's the plan. I have my R350 (full), 87 300D and 82 300CD (both liability)insured currently to the tune of about $565 every three months with nationwide (although its about to go up thanks to a speeding ticket ) who also insures my home (somewhat of a discount).

What I want to do is sell my 300CD so I can remove that from my policy with them, but also insure and tag my 83 380SEC and my 84 300TD since they're ready to go on the road. I do plan on tagging them both historic thanks to Maryland lowering the limit to 20 years. the reason behind my motivation is I got another letter in the mail from county zoning about untagged vehicles and I don't want to mess with this crap anymore so I want to get these two cars on the road, but since I don't plan on driving them much (the 87 is my daily driver), my neighbor suggested a classic/antique/collector car insurance company to insure them with.

Does anyone here have any experience with any such company that you would reccommend?

There are several. I have mine through State Farm. Pick up a copy of Hemmings. They usually have several reputable companies advertising insurance for collector cars. Don`t I know you from somewhere?

I have the AMG with Haggerty and have been very pleased, but I haven't needed them to cough up a check yet either.

What do they run you? All I'm concerned with is just having them legally insured incase something happens. neither one is a gem.

I've used J C Taylor but haven't had a claim; they haven't had a rate increase in 10+ years. I have a $12k stated value policy with NO deductible (there is no discount for deductible) and it's $106 a year. Also I have higher than minimum coverage. I'm interested to see how it compares to others' rates.

Re Collector car insurance: Are annual mileage limitations an issue? Are the cars housed in a garage? Read the usage/mileage limitations carefully on these policies. If you just require liability coverage on the 300s, look into dropping them off Nationwide (if they won't allow different coverage levels on multiple cars on the same policy) and finding conventional auto insurance with another carrier.

...Typically you need a spotless, or damn near spotless driving record.

I had JC Taylor

When I owned my '57 Nomad, '67 GTO convertible and '72 Buick GS convertible the premium was around $150 a year. But you can only drive them 2000 miles a year.

I don't know if the mileage limitation has changed.
I just keep the MB and the BMW on Geico for now

My 78 300D was $220 a year with a mileage limitation. You are not allowed to use the car for commuting, it has to really be treated as a collector car.

That wouldn't be a problem, the only time I'd drive it to work would be to work on it, or for anything I couldn't do at home. just want something cheap to get them covered with for other peoples sake if god forbid I ever get in an accident.

It depends on your state in MI a few companies offer insurance day by day, you send a fax or email saying that you are going to drive it and you are insured those days only.

i use hagerty for my 240D and no problems... as was already stated you have to treat it as a collector car which i do but the premium is super cheap i think it was around 150 per year for full coverage with a agreed value and no mileage limits
