I hit the limiter on mine a few weeks ago - 220 Km/h-ish. I love opening the car up under the right conditions. This was on a sunny, clear weekday, deserted northern highway, no one around. Had to be done.

All the time Hat.

Being that I drive my 560 as a daily driver 100% of the time lately. Also due to the fact that I just picked it up a month ago, and it's still a novelty. The fact that I seem to naturally have a heavy foot. Well, I have a very hard time staying out of it at the moment, and find myself breaking the 240 kmh , and higher markers on quite a regular basis, on the Merit, and on I-91, and I-95 all the time. I can't help it. The car just seems to beg for more speed. Wish I could lay off sometimes with all of the traffic and cops out here. I have yet to have the space though, to max it out fully, and see what it can really do. I am awaiting the right opportunity. Gotta happen one of these days, somewhere...Around here however...Where can I really allow her to stretch her legs? I frequent route 11, on Colchester, which is an almost abandoned, and incomplete highway, but I even run out of room there, either due to traffic, or the route 2 interchange, or end of the road every time..Any ideas..?

Why don't you drive that 560 in the snow to piss us off?

Nevaahh!!

I love that car so friggin' much. It's never seen snow, and barely even rain before.

I know you are being sarcastic with me, but I wouldn't drive that thing anywhere near the snow, ever.

A Mustang is worthless, and makes a great winter driver.

I recently found another 560SEC Euro I'm picking up for a song. It hasn't been babied so much as just driven. It's from the north-east, most of it's life, and I have an offer for the Mustang from a kid in town who wants it. I may end up ousting the Mustang after all, grabbing the other 560SEC Euro car, and driving that, as is, for the winter. It isn't an AMG though, but will make an excellent candidate for the V12, Twin turbo, six speed stick, with roll bar, AMG suspension, and a host of other goodies. After winter is over, it will get a complete make-over, and many mods over next spring and summer. It is still a completetely rust free example even though it's been in the north-east all these years. I think it was cared for, and garaged regularly by an earlier owner, as it is the second owner who has it for sale currently. He lost his job, apartment, and needs the money. I won't tell anyone how much so as not to cause friction or jealousy around here, but it's available to me for CHEAP, I'm talkin about a basement price. I paid more for my Ebay 82 280CE EURO car a few months back..

I have not tried to see how fast my Mercs can go, but I have done the following which I am sure that all will find laughable compared to gassers.

1. 1981 300D - On several occasions I have driven this car 75-80mph on the interstate for 30-90 minute stretches. With this car's rear end gear the engine is turning pretty high, but it does not seem to mind. In fact the car is sweet at this speed.

2. 1985 300D - On one occasion I was on a stretch of interstate where I had never seen traffic move so fast I ended up going 85-90mph for 45 minutes. I got many strange looks. I believe that people could not believe such an 'old' looking car could travel at that speed.

3. 1999 E300 - I have not had it past 90, but my wife has told me that she has broke 110. It is too easy to drive this car at these speeds.

Had my '98 E300 up to 115 once. Generally I'll stay below 85-90,very easy for this car to get away from one,as it were.

There's play in the front end which needs looking into so I'll likely baby it until I never get around to checking it out.................

With premium fuel at $1.10 a litre, I'm keeping my cruise control set at about 115 km/h (70mph) for the most part. I did have the C up to about 140 km/h (85-90mph) briefly over the weekend, but that was just to pass a few stragglers.
