New car, new subwoofer, new camera, new g/f(?) Get them all together for a road trip?
I asked today by email if she wants to go.
The destination would be San Francisco for one of my tours. Dee8go (with cmac) has been on one of them, last year. This would be the idea (from MShop archives) "San Francisco, seeing it from a native's viewpoint". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm a 2nd gen. San Francisco native, and actually lived there till pretty recently, (over 25 years) so I know and love the place, and some of the secrets, and have given a whirlwind tour, in my car, to visiting friends, so are you ready? Here we go..... First to the Coit tower and the WPA murals, then into little Italy (North Beach) for expresso & pastries and some amateur opera singing at Tosca's on Upper Grant Ave, a stop inside Alan Ginsberg's City Lights bookstore, then through old Chinatown, and through the Stockton St. tunnel to the Theatre District and Union Square. Up California St. to the top of Nob Hill, and a visit to the Fairmont Hotel and the Top o' the Mark. (Don't try this climb in a 240 Diesel, folks!!) A visit to Huntington Park and a look inside of Grace Cathedral. Over to Russian Hill for a 360 deg. photo op on the Vista Point, then flash down the "Crookedest Street in the World" and back up Russian Hill to plummet down the steepest Hill in the City. Down Hyde Street to the Buena Vista Cafe, for a drink at the "Home of the Irish Coffee" (invented 1953) and a trip through the Maritime Museum at Aquatic Park. Then, a quick lap through Fort Mason, over to Doyle Drive and across the Golden Gate Bridge for more photos, then back into SF, through the Presidio and out to the Cliff House at Ocean Beach, to check out the abandoned Sutro Baths and the Camera Oscura, and the Musee Mechanique! Then, over to the Haight Ashbury and through Golden Gate Park to see the buffalo, the aquarium, the Hall of Flowers, and the Japanese Tea Garden. Then, up to the top of Twin Peaks for the best view there is in every direction, and then after that, through the premiere neighborhoods like Pacific Heights, Presidio Heights, St. Francis Woods, and the Russian Hill nieghborhoods and the secret Presidio Terrace, home of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Israel) the family/liberal/ labrador/Volvo/baby stroller neighborhood of Noe Valley, the Union Street Yuppieville and over to the Great Irish Way (Geary blvd) for a drink at Pat's Mad Hatter ("We cheat tourists & drunks") and then a visit to Japantown by Fillmore and Post, and through the gay ghetto at 18th & Castro... And then, maybe it's time for dinner. Oh boy, pick your restaurant: Cambodian, French, Vietnamese, Peruvian, Polish, Swiss, Nicaraguan, Thai, Salvadorean, Basque, German, Moroccan, Hawaiian, Burmese, Indian, Ethiopian, Hunan, Afghani, North Italian,House of Prime Rib, Max's Jewish, just about anything you'd please. This driver WILL NOT go to Fisherman's Wharf the Disney Store, or ride on the Cable Cars. Not EVER!!! "First Dead" as they sometimes say in Peru That $hit is for the typical tourists, I wouldn't EVER do it. You want that, you are on your own. Ahh, I miss it. Come for a visit!!! __________________ 1991 560 SEC, 125k, 199 black pearl metallic/261 black leather |
You better be driving the SEC....
|
I still want to go up to Twin Peaks. I missed that on the first two trips. Actually, there's plenty that I haven't done there yet, so I'll have to make several more trips. I just like hanging out in SF.

You're going to pork WHO?

I know Twin Peaks REALLY well, I had a house there I that bought, and lived in, for about 15 years. I walked ALL over Twin Peaks, I know all of it. |
As friends?
|
You mean that if we weren't friends, you would NOT show us around?
|
Quote:
Maybe. But then, gas, parking, and parking TICKETS would be on *YOU*!!! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/laughing006.gif |
Okay, then we'll go in the Subaru instead of the SEC.

It's 0045...I'm hitting the sack...HQ got tagged last night...AFTER the pube was released from a Friday night arrest for tagging buildings...
Some idiots just don't get it... |
It's Wednesday again already! I've been having a great time driving the SEC around. Also, teaching my daughter to drive the 300TD. She actually wants to learn how to work on it. God help her if I'm to be the teacher. Well, we can muddle through it together. It's a nice father/daughter activity.

I am doing a trial run tonight for "cat duty" some friends are going to Hawaii and I'm taking care of the supreme princess of Dupont Circle.

And as for the taking care part? Cats "take care of you"... You're just along for the ride... :D But hey, at least you know that going into this situation... |
Going out for the first splash of the year on the sailboat I mentioned here almost two years ago. Going to sail it all weekend too, then yard it and send it your way for the summer, Mistress. See ya'll later:)

But the sun is out, the sky is clear and little guy #2 has a Challenger League baseball game tonight so it's not all bad.:) Enjoy the water! I haven't even uncovered my dinghy yet.:o |
I intend to have finished installing my new kitchen sink by lunchtime today. I thought I'd be done by bedtime last night. I was finished, but the job wasn't done by 10:00 last night. Home Depot is the poorest excuse for a hardware store I've ever seen!
I've got to find a REAL hardware store close to my house and start patronizing it from now on. There just aren't many of them left. |
loaf around until I have to go to work...
|
I'm on the hunt for a code reader for the 87' 560 SL any and all suggestions welcome.

Did you look on Amazon?

Our local True Value Hardware store is a testament to enduring that initial hit when a Lowe's or HD comes to town. He said the first year sucked but after that 1st year they've managed to F everything up to the point where customers come to him first. He's gotten so much business back plus more that he's comfortable enough to send customers to HD if for some reason he doesn't have an item they need or can't wait until their next delivery to special order it. There is a lot of gloom and doom when a big box comes to town but if the local store can't withstand that first hit they may not have been long for the business world anyway. The only thing they really offer is longer hours. |

Finished chasing the cows.
Off to pick up the kiddos from school here in about 30 minutes. Then the oldest (11) and I will continue with trailer training her new horse until mum calls us in for dinner. She (daughter) gets her last “Ferris Bueller” day tomorrow so we’re heading for the arena. In short…not much. |

Nope, still here, still cussing like a sailor, and smiling ear to ear. Everything is back in, jam up, and jelly tight (remember that old teeny-bopper song?)
I'll hold off on the Macallans until tonight. |

All the customers will go in there and just stand around, talking about how they don't have to do anything. |

UPDATE
I would attend one of those again:P |

Just out of focus enough to make us feel like we’re really there at the bar. :D |
Headin' north today to back-flush our heat-exchanger (HE) at the Colfax Xmtr. site. We've had a MAJOR Cotton-wood outbreak and my HEs are getting too "blankety" - if you know what I mean... :D
But, here's what happening in the area right now... Hot news last night...MNDOT decided to shut down the Hwy 43 bridge over the Mississippi River yesterday afternoon/evening. It seems that little bridge is suffering from a severe case of bolt & gussette plate rot (Just like what they believe took out the I-35W bridge in Mpls/St.Paul last year.). This particular little span connects Winona, MN. to the western side of Wisconsin. The nearest connecting bridges are in Wabasha, MN. (Hwy 60) and the I-90 Bridge down by La Crosse...anyone that had to cross the river at Winona on a "short trip" now is looking at a, minimum, 65-mile one-way commute to, and then from, work. With gas running about $3.929 for RUG and $4.759 for diesel, this has got to suck, big-time. Hey, hopefully your Hump-Day isn't giving it to you today! How's it going? |
Lots of interest for the playset we listed on Craigslist...got a solid buyer who will pay cash this weekend!
Now I have to figure out what to do with the void that in the back yard once the playset is gone...a good problem though. |

Short day - going to work the rest of the week in Texas:)
|
Rainy and quiet. I might actually catch up today since I took off early yesterday (we attended the funeral for my wife's 21yo cousin yesterday-died in her sleep the day after a "good" physical for a new job :().
On the upside (even though it was Tues. I need to brag :), especially after the way the first part of the day went) my 10yo hit a game-tying, bonified Grand Salami (his 2nd real home run in 2 games-as opposed to just advancing bases thanks to misplays or errors by the other team) in the bottom of the 5th (they play 6 innings) and the next kid up hit the eventual game-winner to beat the only other undefeated team in their league 10-9. It was quite a relief, as well as a very proud moment, since the kid lives and dies by every play. He has a real tough time keeping his emotions in check when things don't go well and I was preparing myself for the worst case scenario (I know, I should have had more faith). The funny thing is that although he probably a good 5-6" taller than most of the kids on his team the bat is thicker than his arms and legs. I guess it just goes to show how important bat speed is. |

Ahhhhhhh- woke up on this side of the grass and I'm still on the payroll! Woooohoooooo. Today at work,I officially christen the 3-D camera thing-a-ma-bob "See-3D-Oh". Thought it appropriate since I have a Star wars theme going on in the studio. Have a good one everyone!
Later in the morning- "See-3D-Oh" decided to have a major meltdown so I spent 1/2 the morning on the phone with "Houston Control" .....I love technology. |

What about a gravel walkway out to the spot, but a pergola roof, and a brick bbq pit, plumbed keg cooler and a weather proof flatscreen? |

As for the void, may I suggest a nice new garage- climate controlled. Remote controlled lift. |
